My son does the same and he is now 18 months old... It works for us so we don't even bother to put him back in his crib. We love to have our evenings ...

My son refused I feed him when he was about 8 months old. So I let him self-feed. I would give him tiny pieces of banana, ham, turkey, mashed veggies ...
