Trouble with Eating

My daughter is 10 1/2 months, she is not a picky eater at all, she likes just about anything and likes to try new things. My problem though, is that when I feed her she refuses to eat. She will take a few bites and then start getting fussy and throwing her food on the floor and spitting it back out. However, if I take the same exact meal and send it with her to child care, she eats the entire thing with no problem. So I know the problem isn't her appetite, its just me.

Any advice on how to get her to eat for me?

Well, my daughter has always been a much better eater at the babysitters than at home.  The only reason we have been able to come up with is because all the kids sit down together to eat and she likes to do what the other kids are doing.  The only solution I found was to just sit down and eat with her though that doesn't work all the time.  Sorry, not much help, but you're not alone in this problem!

Oh, also forgot to say that since she is still pretty young - as she gets older she'll become more interested in food and will probaby become a better eater for you.

My son refused I feed him when he was about 8 months old. So I let him self-feed. I would give him tiny pieces of banana, ham, turkey, mashed veggies (thick enough he could eat with his fingers) and never had a problem ever since. Maybe you should try that with your daughter as well. She might throw the food around at first but will probably get around it after a while (and maybe that's also what they do at day care?). Good luck.

As a Nanny, I found the independence in eating much more easy than feeding the child myself. Okay, so not easy, just less of a power struggle. Your little girl sounds like she wants to try it herself...give your baby a spoon (keep one for yourself) and some finger safe nibbles. And feed her (from a dish with your spoon) while she explores her ability to feed herself from her own tray! Remember it will be messy, but kids and walls are very washable!
