I am a spouse of an active-duty Coastie – and we are proud to be a Coast Guard Family! My husband and I have a beautiful 10 year old daughter named Kiki. We are new to Florida, as my husband has just been stationed at the USCG base in Ft. Pierce. We live on the borderline of Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach. It’s been nearly four months since we arrived here and we have yet to make friends, but we are looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends. We are natives of the Island of Guam, USA. If you are not familiar with Guam, Guam is a United States Territory “Where America’s Day Begins!” (That’s the actual slogan for Guam, because we are ahead in time by 18 hrs. as opposed to any other U.S. land.) Guam is a very beautiful, tropical island which is very similar to Hawaii. For many of you who are wondering…yes, English is our first language; yes, we do use U.S. currency; yes, we do have huge malls and franchised food chains on Guam; and, no, we do not live in huts or shacks! [*Laughs!*] If you would like to learn more about Guam, log on to: www.visitguam.org
I began working since I got out of high school. I worked in retail for a short time, less than two years and then I moved on to manage a law firm for the next nine years of my life. I had my first and only child a year after I started work at the law firm and when my daughter was only eight months old, I then decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. Three years later, I fulfilled that goal. Although it was quite rough and tough having to juggle my life as a new mom, a full-time employee, and a full-time student all together, the support I received from my loved ones was amazing and I credit my family and my husband for my success.
As a military family, my husband has been stationed in many places and we have had to relocate many times. However, I have to say that this is the toughest move yet! During these past three years, we had the pleasure of being stationed back home on Guam. While we were stationed home, I worked for the Supreme Court of Guam. I was the Chamber Administrator to the Chief Justice of Guam and my position was very demanding – I was often labeled as the “workaholic woman.” Needless to say, I enjoyed my job very much and I really do miss my job, and all of my family and friends. Because we are new here, my husband and I decided that I will be a stay-at-home mom in order for the well-being and safety of our daughter. In both mine and my husband’s career field, work will require much of us, ad we don’t want to run into a situation where we will have to leave our daughter with just anyone. We don’t know anyone here yet and we will not just trust anyone with our daughter. Kiki is our life, she is our only child and we are both very protective of her. I have to admit, I still tend to miss my “workaholic” days and sometimes become sad just thinking about the prior lifestyle that I had to give up, but being a stay-at-home mom is a new field for me and I am enjoying and loving every minute of it!...I have no regrets and I am looking forward to this adventure!

My family means the world to me!...
Kiki is our only child; she brings so much pride and joy to our life. Many people tend to stereotype the “only child” as being a “spoiled brat.” However, with great pride, I say that my Kiki is a very sweet, loving, and caring kid. Kiki is very compassionate and considerate; she consistently demonstrates the values that we have taught her – to treat everyone equally, and to treat everyone with respect and unselfishness. Kiki is the kid who will, without a doubt, walk away from the “popular girly girls” to befriend and defend the girl who continues to get picked-on by everyone else. Kiki has a big heart and loves to help people and make new friends. As the only child, we have tried our best to keep Kiki occupied and entertained with extra curricular activities of which she finds interest in. At five years old, Kiki began playing her first sport of interest, soccer. She later discovered her interest in dancing, so we enrolled her into a dance class. Kiki didn’t stay interested in dancing for too long, but found interest in modeling. We then enrolled her into John Robert Powers School of Modeling; she enjoyed her modeling class for a few years. Not too long after, Kiki wanted to learn how to play the guitar and the ukulele; she has now been taking lessons for three years and continues to do so in Vero Beach. As a family, we really enjoyed Kiki’s cooking lessons that was taught at the Hilton Hotel in Guam; classes were given every Saturday and it was a great way for us to spend time together and to learn new things together. Our family really looked forward to that and we are hoping to find a similar class here. We recently enrolled Kiki into TaeKwon Do classes and she loves it! It’s been one month since and we can see a lot of progress. TaeKwon Do is a martial arts class that makes you strong in body, mind, and spirit and it has really helped Kiki a lot, especially in having to adapt to the new move and the new environment. Kiki aspires to become a doctor, a teacher, or a vet some day; she also finds interest in crafting, art, fishing, and reading.
My husband, Chris, has been serving in the military for many years. Chris served in the U.S. Navy, and then transferred to the U.S. Air Force, and now, proudly serves in the U.S. Coast Guard! Chris played Major League Baseball on Guam form many years and he also continues to play softball. As such, Kiki and I have a great passion for watching baseball games and softball games, especially if daddy’s playing – we’re his biggest fans! Chris’ hobbies include fishing, bike-riding (his mean, green, Harley Davidson, machine), playing baseball, playing softball, and rebuilding antique cars.
