I'm a single working mother of one originally from the windy city. My 4 year old daughter and I just moved here 2 months ago. While I've been enjoying parts of this experience, I have found myself being lonely. I do have family and a few friends here, we don't see each other often. Further more, I'm afraid my daughter has been a bit lonely too. There are a lot of kids in our apartment complex, but not many her age. While she has friends at school, when we go home, it's just the two of us. I am a preschool teacher, so I can come up with activities for her, but at her age, I'm not enough...she needs playmates her own age. When I see her feeling sad, it makes me sad. I would like to see her make friends, and I am looking for friends as well...preferably women like me, who knows what it feels like to raise a child alone, in a strange city with little support. |

My daughter Mecca is 4 years old. She is your typical only child raised by a single mother...independant, imaginative, spoiled (lol). VERY intelligent (and I'm not just saying that cause I'm her mother!). She started speaking in full sentences when she was 1 year old. She's a Disney channel kid and is, of course, a big fan of (you guessed it!) Hannah Montana. She knows the Best of Both Worlds concert by heart...as do I lol. Since we've moved here, she's made friends at school, but none really around our apartment. It's just me and her, and as hard as I try to keep her entertained...she told me the other day that she wanted to play with little kids. Since I don't know too many people here, I don't really have any outlets for her. |
