I have raised 2 stepkids a boy and a girl and have been in early child hood field for over 20 years. I am soon to be a step mom again to a 10 year old boy. He is bright, extremely smart, loving, and charming. My problem is that Dad has been a single parent for a while and has not instilled consistency or consequenses. Due to the child's relationship with his mother there are many underlying issues. He can be physically and verbally abusive towards adults and peers. We have so many areas to work on that I really don't know where to start. He has given me a black eye, broken my glasses, suspensions from school, lying, Dad is respectful to women, all people in general but mother is very aggressive, up in your face physically and verbally and during visits tells him things about us that upon his return spill over into extreme anger towards us physically and verbally. We've tried many techniques, contracts, consequenses. but so far nothing is working. |

my future step son is extremely bright, loving, a real charmer. He loves skate boarding, bikes, all the extreme sports, and music. His personality is a topsy-turvy one. Half of the time he is sweet, helpful, nurturing, and really funny. But if he is asked to do anything he doesn't want to do or told no...he becomes another boy entirely. Hitting, cussing, throwing things and just plain destructive.
My fiance is a sweet, loving, man. He works long hours and is a loving father. He just has no idea how to handle his son. He gets frustrated and then just gives in to the boy so consequenses go out the window. |
