Chewy Granola Bars
This is a comparable recipe to the Quaker Chewy Granola bars. These can pretty much be made with anything you have on hand or prefer in your bars.
The original recipe can be found here: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chewy-Granola-Bars/Detail.aspx?prop31=1
The recipe I'm posting is as I made it. (slight modifications) |
Great for: Finger Foods |
Courses: Snacks |
Main Ingredients: Chocolate, Grains & Cereals |
INGREDIENTS
-4 cup rolled oats
-1cup whole wheat flour
-1tsp baking soda
-1tsp vanilla extract
-2/3cup butter, softened
-1/2cup honey (plus a little more - see instructions)
-1/3cup packed brown sugar
-1cup miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 325 ° F.
2. Lightly grease a 9x13 pan
3. In a large bowl, combine oats, flour, baking soda, and brown sugar. Mix well.
4. Add butter and blend using a pastry blender or clean fingers (the best mixing tool in your kitchen!).
5. Add honey and stir to coat. (This is where the "little more" comes in. I ended up adding additional honey at this stage to coat completely)
6. Lastly, add chocolate chips.
7. Press mixture into the pan. (Again, I used my hands for this to press firmly into the pan and get it even.)
8. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until edges are slightly browned.
9. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then make your cuts.
10. Allow bars to cool completely **IN THE PAN** before removing or serving.
******Notes******
Only lightly grease the baking pan. I would recommend using the wrapper from the butter you're using and rubbing that on the pan. I used a cooking spray and the bottom of my bars are slightly greasy.
