Smoking and children
OMG~! So how much do you want to kick those women in their shins when you see them smoking while they're pregnant! Or holding their baby with a cigarette hanging off their faces. Or driving down the road with the windows rolled up, kids in the backseat, and hot-boxing the car with cig smoke... Ughhh! Makes me wanna scream!!!!

I agree with your aggravation I dont understand what loving mother wants to subject their child(ren) to that. It's bad enough they are exposed to potentially harmful things that we cant help (air pollution, peer pressure, etc....)

omg i know! I went and bought cigarettes for my fiancee once when i was pregnant, i felt so stupid! and the woman who have a cigarette in their mouths with the baby on their hip, it looks so trashy.
I do smoke occasionally, and I have made every effort not to subject my daughter to second hand smoke. Smoking is my choice, and i dont think my daughter should have to pay for it.... I know smoking is bad for me, and i know i should quit. but at least i do my part to keep my daughter safe. that, at least, makes me feel better.

I totally agree with you Becky. I am a smoker also. I used to smoke in my home and in my car. Now, of course, life is different for me. I do not smoke in my house, which I have to say is a hard on me, but totally worth it. I live outside of Chicago, and it is really really cold here. I go the garage and I have a small space heater out there, but it does not help to much. But I guess I should not complain, I could just always stop. I also do not smoke in the car. I totally agree with you. It is my choice not my son's, and he has no business being around it. I even feel bad if I go to play bingo and come home smelling like an ashtray. I immediately go to the shower. It is completely trashy and also just plain stupid to have your children around it. I do not even want my son to see me smoking.

The dumbest thing I ever heard a smoking mom say was : This is my child and I'll smoke around him if I very well please!

Such a shame. Such a selfish shame.....

Misti, I cannot believe that a mother actually said that! It is an absolutely shame.

Oh no. I'm glad I've never had to witness this first hand. But don't let me spank my child once on the rear end at Wal-Mart because I'd have Social Services knocking on my front door! LOL... (just a phrase-dont want to turn this in to a to spank or not to spank post)
I did, however, witness a girl (around my age at the time - 22) in line at the grocery store tell her son "No! Leave that there! I dont have money!" when he was trying to put a bag of apples on the counter to be paid for, then turn around and ask the cashier for a pack of cigarrettes. OMG, I couldnt believe she didnt want to buy her son apples, but had enough for cigarrettes. I did think "well maybe she has apples at home, or can get them from someone like her mom or something" but just the tone in which she yelled at him pissed me off. My friend who was w/ me in line actually told her "Damn b*&%$, you cant buy your son fruit but your buying yourself a pack of cigarrettes!? Wow, & I thought I was a shitty mom at times"
I didnt agree w/ her cursing in front of her son, nor even saying something to her in front of him, but oh well, she said it. The girl gave her a dirty look but I can tell was embarrassed because she didnt say anything.
