I'm going to try to use this group as my accountability, since I don't do so well just reporting to myself. Yesterday was day 1. I weighed in at 240 lbs in the morning. I'm planning on weighing each Monday morning. For breakfast I had an English muffin with butter and a yogurt (6 points), lunch was a Lean Cuisine beef portobello (5 points, but I picked off the mushrooms :)) Supper was homemade chicken and noodles. My best guess is that it was about 10 points. Anyone know a good way to figure points for homemade stuff? Today for breakfast I had 1 cup of vanilla almond Special K with 1/2 cup 2% milk (4 points), lunch was Lean Cuisine chicken fettucine (6 points). I'm planning to fix mesquite chicken and corn on the cob for supper, so I'm guessing 10-12 points. If anyone has any good recipes, please send them my way! |

I used to do points for recipes the hard way: add up the points for each ingredient and divide by the number of servings - I don't know if there is an easier way or not.
MY easier way is that I don't cook anymore. I might steam some broccoli or heat up some fish, but I don't combine ingredients much anymore. I'd rather eat single ingredient dishes than do all that math! LOL |

What is the point counting system? I have never heard of it before. I know that some times for breakfast I havea whole wheat english muffin with sugar free jelly. It sound slike it wont taste good, but it is sweetened with splenda and it still tasted pretty good to me. |

The point system is one of Weight Watcher's things. Depending upon how many calories, how much fat and how much fiber is in something, you get a point value. Your weight range is allowed so many points per day. I weighed 200 when I went to them and my points allowed were something like 26-30 per day. That is a VERY simplified explanation. The program is more involved than that. It's a good program, too. |

Stephanie- good job on joining Weight Watchers. Word of advice, write down everything! They say, you bite it, you write it. It is sooo true. Anyway, I have a WW recipe for a potato soup- hard to imagine eating soup when it is so hot out, but it is good. Use 1 bag of diced hashbrown potatos (I use the OreIda O'Brien hashbrowns), 1 box or 3 cans of chicken broth (use the reduced sodium kind), 1 package of fat free country gravy mix and 1/4 cup water. Bring the potatoes and broth to a boil for about 20-30minutes, stirring often. reduce heat and then combine in a mixing cup the gravy mix with the 1/4 cup water (this will help thicken the soup). Slowly add mixture to the potatoes, stirring. Simmer for about 20 min, or until the potatoe are soft enough. I used to split this soup into 1 cup servings and I think that each cup was 2-3 points or something. Have that with a half sandwich and you have a good meal. Another recipe is with black beans, sweet potatos, onion, cilantro, and lime juice. Let me know if you want that one. It is not WW, but it is made with all healthy ingredients. |
