Hello all. I'm new to this group & love to read. When I was pregnant, I read a lot. Now that I've had my daughter, I havent been able to do so as much. I have three questions for memebers:
#1) How & when do you find the time to read!? I'll be going back to work next week & can't imagine how hectic my schedule will be. Hell, I barely find time to shower now, & I've been a SAHM since my daughter was born 4 months ago.
#2) Cook Books. Any good cook books anyone recommends? I just ordered "The Biggest Looser Family Cookbook" I need recipie ideas that are both healthy & anyone can eat.
#3) Parenting Books. Any good parenting books anyone recommends? I've been thinking of getting Nany 911's book on parenting or Super Nany's book. Anyone have these or read them? |

I read when I go to the bathroom and before I know it my book is all done and I am on to the next book also reading at lunch time and before bed is what I do sometimes. I love taste of Home cook books the best issue is 1999 not all recipes are very healthy but I have done several of the recipes for family picnics and other partys and everyone raved about them. That is the only cook book I have found that I can acualy follow others are too complicated and call for odd ingredents this one doesn't, but beware if you try the pork crown roast, I found out that I couldn't just go to a supermarket for the meat I had to go to the butcher to order it and the smallest size they do is 8lbs the book says get 5 or 6 lbs. I had it for 16 people for Christmas and everyone loved it, I also did cornish hens they are great any day of the week. I am only going to do the crown roast for holidays as it is expesive but that book has meals on a budget The one for salsiberry steaks is my favorite. If you want to save yourself the cost of the book or if you can't find it just send me a message and I will send you the recipes you want back to you. Good Luck |

1) I mostly read once the kids go to bed for the night. Not as much lately though, since I'm pregnant and exhausted so I usually fall asleep when they do now, so that's cut down on my reading time a lot. I also read when I'm the only one left still eating at mealtimes and in the bathroom. My job, the few hours I get at it, also allows me to read when there are no customers around.
2) I like the Better Crocker cookbook that has the ring binding best for a general cookbook. Most of my other cookbooks are healthy ones--vegetarian, macrobiotic, or raw foods, but I don't use those as much, except maybe 1,001 Low-Fat Vegetarian Recipes.
3) A prime thing you might want to look at for deciding what parenting books to get is considering whether the author actually has any kids. Being a nanny is entirely different than having your own kids that you will live with and love their entire childhood into adulthood (and hopefully keep loving after that!!!!!!!). I love anything by Dr. Sears for parenting books myself (the Baby Book is the BEST book about babies in existence). Another one I really liked when my second son was born was Attachment Parenting by Katie Allison Granju. I've heard great things about Playful Parenting by Lawrence J. Cohen as well, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. I'd have other suggestions too, if your daughter was older, but there really isn't any need to read them all at once. You're raising her a day at a time, not all at once after all!

I read at night when I put the kids to bed. I have Taste of Home/Betty Crocker/Womans Day/and several that I got online Bookclubs. I read Parenting Magazines and go to different websites for parenting advice like here.

I read at night after my son goes to bed or while I go to the bathroom (although my son likes to come with me in there most of the time) and I read on my lunch break when I am at work. |
