Potty Training
Hello! I'm new to this group and notice the topic on Potty Training. I am the mother of a 2 1/2 year old boy who we have been trying to potty train. He was doing so good when we were asking him "do you want to try going potty?" He would then sit on the potty and go number 1. Now he's not really going number 1 anymore on the potty, now granted it's only been a couple of days but it's wierd that he's was going on the potty every day espcially before nap and bedtime. Anyway, things I've read said that it's normal to relapse but I don't know if I should worry.

You should not worry at all about it. Before you know it, your son will definitely have an interest in the potty again. My son also did the recessing pattern that you described and he was potty-trained in a few weeks. Sometimes, it just takes a little time for some to get used to something new.

Hello Monica! Thanks for the support = } It's hard when you have friends and family saying things like "wow, he should be potty trained by now". I'll just keep taking it day by day and keeping up with the same routine. He even tells us before bed "I go potty". We even started a sticker chart for him, so each time he goes pee-pee he gets a sticker. This was working for a while but then he lost interest in the pee-pee part of it but is still sitting on the potty... LOL

Kitty, it will all be just fine - looks like you're on the right track! :)
Our son is almost 2 1/2 and we haven't even gone there yet....we're waiting until closer to 3 I think. Sometime after 2 1/2 we'll break out the potty so it can make it's presence known - haha, then slowly introduce as our son's curiosity is peaked. Boys are trained usually closer to 3...older than girls. My pedi told me that when I come in for his 3rd b-day check-up, she wants to make sure I've started to train, and then she said I've got another 6 months or so to get it right :)
Question about boys and training....when training, are they sitting down to pee? Holding down their penis' themselves? Does this get messy? LOL. I actually saw a baby training urinal at onestepahead.com and it said that standing up to train helps, but I'm thinking it might confuse when it comes to sitting down and pooping????? Thoughts? Thanks!
I love the sticker chart idea - I've heard good things. :)

Hello Lauren, Actually, we've been putting our son on the potty since he was about 12 months as funny as that sounds. We had asked about potty training and they said we could introduce him to the potty whenever we had wanted. We thought what could it hurt. Of course we knew he wouldn't go and he wasn't upset by it so we figured what the "hay"... LOL. We started training him sitting down. I agree, I thought it might confuse him if we were to start him standing vs. sitting. We hold his penis down for him and show him at the same time. I saw the standing urinal. It's too cute but I don't think we're ready for that. Seeing as though I've never had a boy before, it's a new and fun learning experience = }
