Hi Michelle, My daughter is also 11 months old and we started giving her peanut butter when she was about 9 months old. Have you ever herd of mum mum's? They are basically a rice cake (puff if you ask me), we started by putting peanut butter on them for her and then when she got older worked it onto toast. She LOVES it. |

Oh eggs....I swear my daughter would eat them each and every day if I would let her. And it's funny...she knows the difference on how they are perpared, she only likes them certain ways!!! I can completely understand being afraid, when my daughter was about 7 months old, I was still feeding her baby jar cereal; one am I decided to sprinkle cinnamon on it, you know, try somthing different...well she was allegric to it. I called her dr and they suggested water then benadryl. Luckely the rash was only on her face and she was breating and swallowing just fine so there was no need to panic any more than I already was. Best of luck with what you choose to do. |

ya know I've always heard it was better to wait till they were 2 to give them peanut butter but I wasn't sure if there was a reason besides allergies. HAHA my son is like that with potatos, he only likes them mashed with butter and garlic...I have a weird kid :) |

I waited til Victoria was 13 months to give her pb because before that they can get allergies to peanuts before that. And yes I know the egg thing to, Victoria likes them scrabbles with suryp on them other wise she just picks at them. She even eats hotdogs better with ketchup and mustard mixed. She reacted to cinnamon when she was about 7 or 8 months and applesause when she was 5 months so those things we waited till after her 1st birthday to start giving her those things now we have no problem. So at this point the call is yours cause it seams like we have heard a couple of differant things about when to give pb. Hope it goes well when you decide to. |

I found this information on peanut butter. It explains exactly what I was going to say except it explains it a little better. Hope it helps. Good luck!
Answer: Peanuts make the top of the big 8 list of food allergies but there really is no definitive answer to this question. Much depends on your family history. If you or anyone in your child's family has a food allergy or allergic type disorder (like asthma or eczema) or if your child has had a food allergy in the past, then you should wait to introduce peanuts and peanut butter. How long? According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, you should wait until your child is 3 years old.
In addition, mothers with any history of a peanut allergy in the family should avoid peanuts and peanut butter in the third trimester of pregnancy and for as long as they are nursing their children.
If there is none of the above in you or your child's history, however, then peanut butter can be a healthy addition to the diet when your child turns 1 year old. Just be sure to avoid giving big spoonfuls of peanut butter and never give children under 3 years of age whole peanuts because these pose a choking hazard.
With all that said, be aware that a peanut allergy can be severe, lifelong and potentially deadly. Look for signs of an allergic reaction such as:
* hives * difficulty breathing or asthma symptoms * swelling of the mouth or throat * vomiting or diarrhea * loss of consciousness
These signs can appear in just minutes or they make take hours, so be watchful during this time and do not wait to call 9-1-1 or your health care provider. Call immediately!
If you are concerned about your child having a peanut allergy, the only real way to avoid the danger is to avoid peanuts and peanut butter altogether. But be aware that for the majority of children, there is no danger. |

Amers: That's funny...butter and garlic. I must try it, because my daughter will not eat them mashed. Now what kid doesn't eat mashed potaots? She loves them fried though. And Anne; That's funny to because mine won't eat them scrambles. Talk about having a weird kid; I have one too. You know to tell you the truth I never thought about a peanut allergie. Her ped told me at her 9 month check up to start giving her things with more protean so that was when we went for those items. Great info everyone. Good luck with your decision. |

The AAP recomends now to wait until the kid is 2 yrs old to start giving then peanuts. Now my pediatrician said I could wait or I can just put a very thing layer of PB on craker. Besides the allergies issue the AAP advices to wait because the PB get stuck on the roof of the mouth. As adult even us struggle to get it out, right! So the idea is that babies and toddler can't talk and said it bothers them to get the PB stuck and also they might choke with it. So if you decide to give it to your child just put a thin layer on top of bread or cracker and give them plenty of liquid. |

I've never heard of anyone having a reaction to applesauce or cinnamon before...yea my son won't really eat hotdogs, I've tried so many different things and nothing has worked in that direction....BUT he won't really eat meat, he likes his veggies and other stuff but not meat. I guess we will try peanut butter and eggs one day soon. |

Dr. Sears also recomends waiting until around 2 for the peanut butter. I have given my son very small amounts, more like tastes, but I am waiting to actually give it to him. The only issue he has was with green beans. Kind of silly, but he was only about 4 months, and he would break out on his face. I stayed away from them for a little while then I gave them again in small amounts here and there and kept giving bigger amounts each time. He is fine with them now.
With the eggs they say they are fine with them at about 1. My son loves them scrambled. I put a little milk and shredded cheese in them and then cook them, he loves it. |

My kid is 15 months old and LOVES the pb & j crustable sandwiches. He also loves scrambled eggs. But my son is the size of a 2 year old and has always been ahead in development - so don't go by his example. My pediatrician said just to watch the reaction signs and use moderately. |

Did anyone watch the news about the PB products and salmonella. IF not be careful with the PB cracker and other PB products there is a list of the products that have been voluntarily taken out of th emarket because many people has been infected with salmonella and a few has died including children. |

YEAH I saw that on the news about peanut butter...and the funny thing is that it is with Kellogg products and I live about 4 miles from where they make it. The headquarters is just a hop, skip and jump away from my home. YIKES. Since Kellogg's is such a "household" name here, weveryone in this area has it in their home. Carefull everyone. |
