Hello, Thanks for the welcome Sarah Beth. Yes, I'm Kelly. I have two boys with one in the oven. My family just moved from NYC to GA. It is very, very different to say the least. I am finding it hard to meet open minded people. Where we live it has been difficult to meet anyone. When I do find some friendly faces I become invited to their church for Wed. night service or Sunday. I have never had an issue with where I stand in my beliefs or there lack of but can see that some of these issues might have to be addressed in some fashion at some point. My family chooses to educated every form of religion and educate being to key word not practice. Well I hope to read new and old posts soon. |

Kelly,
Welcome! I am fairly new to the group as well. May I ask what your beliefs are? Also you said you are educating your family in all forms of religion, how are you doing that? Sorry for so many questions, but your introduction intrigued me. I am looking for other people in similar situations to myself and how they handle them. I hope to talk to you more.

Hi Monique, My beliefs are more on the scientific side. I wish I was more spiritual, but who am I joking, I'm not. I believe that we should treat others how we wish to be treated. I think that many religions have good concepts when it comes to doing the right thing. I just don't think that there is a hell or evil place that looms over us and our decisions. I am a good person who respects all people (for the most part :) ). I don't think that people should lie or be untrue. I don't think people should hurt one another with verbal or physical harm. As far as how we educate our children, right now they are toddler and younger. We have a game plan, but have not had to start anything yet. We celebrate Santa on Christmas, but will explain the pagan holiday and Christan back ground. We celebrate the Easter Bunny on Easter, but will explain the idea's behind that. We hope to read to our children about as many faiths that we can, about as many philosophy's as we can, and study science as well. Well, that is me. What about you and your? I saw that you lived in CT try and stay warm. We just left NYC and miss it so much. |

Kelly,
Thank you for your openness. It seems I have similar beliefs as you do which is nice to see. Not many people in my life have the same beliefs as I do, which I respect, but it makes it difficult for them to relate to me when it comes to religious matters. Even my husband has a very different outlook than I do, but he understands and respects my positions. We don't have any children yet, but we are hoping to very soon. I want to teach them about all different types of religions which is why I was interested in your approach. If they choose to follow one I will support them, but even if they don't I think it is will be helpful for them in life to understand others.
NYC is a bit different than GA, what made you move? You'll be glad to be there later this week when the North is suppose to be in the single digits. Thank you again for sharing. |
