OK, so I have three kids, and before I had my first one, I was very skinny, and barely even put on a pound!! But of course that was when I was 18. Now, here I am, 26, and had my third child 2 years ago, and I haven't been able to drop a pound. And I have tried after each of my children, and couldn't lose anything!! They have checked my thyroid, and it's good. I am getting so tired, and frustrated with every diet program out there. The diet and exercise just isnt cutting it for me. I have considered surgery, but we just don't have the money for it. I was going to the gym and loved it, but we can't afford the daycare for my kids. I live in a small town, and don't know anybody to be my workout buddy, I have heard if you have a buddy, you will stick to a diet and excise program. I would really enjoy that. I have 50 lbs to lose, but you wouldn't think that if you saw me, the best part about my short body, is that it hides weight pretty good, but to me when i see myself in the mirror, i see a fat woman, I just want to learn to except, and love my body. So, I was thinking about joining weight watchers, I heard it is a great program, but, again, I have nobody to watch my kids to go in. And i could do it online, but I really would like the support of someone else too. And if I do it online, i know i will not finish.......so, if anyone can help me, I would much appreciate it!! Any advise? -Shannon |

I think that weight watchers has at least one meeting that allows kids to be there. I have never joined (but know many who have) and everyone says that it is a good program and it will help you stick to your diet due to the weekly weigh ins. I would check out your local weight watchers and see what they have to offer. Also if you don't mind running that is a good way to loose weight. That is what I am having to do. To start with run intervals. That means if you are using a track to walk a lap, then run a half of a lap. And then work up to running more and more. The start/stop of running will help those annoying pounds go away!! Best of luck to you in your progress. Let me know if you need any support! I know I always do!! |

Hey Shannon, I am totally with you! I am in the same boat as you. Are we twins?lol I am turning 30 in a couple of days, and I feel like my time is running out to get this weight issue under control. I have two kids, a 3yr. old and a 6 month old. Now that I am done having children I can focus more on me and my weight. I don't own a scale, won't own a scale. Too afraid I might become obsessed. I was bulimic in my teen years and now I am overweight in my twenties. I am hoping my thirties are different for me, maybe a little balance. I too, need to lose at least 50lbs. My husband doesn't GET IT! He is very thin, and always has been. Diet programs are too expensive for me, especially having to pay for the food that goes with them. I have tried Curves, but felt isolated, since the women were much older then me. I have had gym memberships, but I felt like it was more like a Meat Market for the singles, which I am not. I want to take a magical pill or something. Best of luck to you. |

Well to all of you. I hope you find what you need to get motivated. I know that Kelly and Tara are both using a book that they could tell you about. I know Kelly has already had success in losing weight with this literature. Tara is finding it helpful to use us as a log everyday to inform us of what she is doing and ensuring she watches what she intakes. I also have found that doing what you can when you can is a great idea as well. I usually take my dauhgter up to our gym here in our community with us and we work out for about 30 minutes. I am not losing weight super fast, but the pounds are coming off. Use us however you need us to keep you motivated, and if you believe that you can benefit from a book please ask these ladies for their advice on it. Also use your kids as a tool in your routine. Taking them for walks or swimming, any outdoors activity is a great way to get everybody involved in your healthy fit lifestyle. Do not obsess on what your body looks like. Remember as women we have brought beautiful babies into this world and our bodies are our road maps. Thank you Kelly for the encouragment every since you told me about being proud of my body and my markings it has truly helped me with self motivation. Good luck Shannon and Roxy. |

Ahhh, thank you so much, I really like that all of you are very inspirational. And yes Roxy, We do sound like twins!! lol, I am going to check in with weight watchers as soon as I can. I just want you all to know, I do, feel hope, and I do want to be that girl at the beach feeling comfortable in a bathing suit, and not have to be pulling and tugging at all the loose clothes that I'm in. And I do believe that us mothers bodies are very special, and God gave us all a great and beautiful gift....motherhood!! So, I will keep in touch with all of you, and when those m&m's are in my hand...I'll set them aside, and reach to you for support. Again, thank you. |

wouldn't it be great if they made diet candy, what an idea. No calories. I mean we already have sugar free candy, and that was a big step now we just need to get no calorie goodies in eveyrthing. Good luck and we will be waiting to hear how you do. |

Hi Shannon!
I had my third child 11 years ago, and never lost the weight - just added to it! It's good you had your thyroid checked - that's a problem that many dr.'s overlook.
I've been overweight for the last 13 of my 40 (42) years. Until then I was very thin and never even thought about my weight. When I had a baby and a few extra pounds left over, I was able to lose it quickly - until that third baby!
The book I've referred to before is YOU: The Owner's Manual by Dr. Oxz and Dr. Roizen. They also have YOU: On a Diet which is great as well.
I'm counting calories and losing about a pound a week right now. My goal is be at my healthy weight of about 115 by my 43rd birthday in June, 2008. It sounds like forever, but it's not. And since I have the incentive of seeing my weight numbers drop every 6-7 days, I want to keep going.
A better way of gauging health than your weight, however, is by monitoring your measurements - especially waist. Another way is by monitoring your body fat percentage - there are relatively inexpensive home scales you can buy that will determine your body fat percentage using a mild electrical current you can't even feel.
The most important thing for me is asking (when I face a temptation), "Do I want to be skinny or do I want to ........ " Saying/thinking the word "skinny" makes me want it even more!
Do look into Weight Watchers. Several years ago I lost my first 20 lbs there and have kept it off since. It's also a great way to retrain yourself to eat. My mother is an RN Diabetes Educator, and she said when they get a new patient in who is already on Weight Watchers, they tell them to stick with it because they'll learn to eat in the most nutritious way. And I do remember that the location I went to had one meeting per week for those who needed to bring children.
I would advise you to keep a daily log as well - of food choices and amounts and exercise. Then if reasonable diet and exercise really aren't cutting it for you, you can take the log to your dr. for analysis.
Keep us informed of how you are doing! |

Thank you Kelli. Where did you buy that book? Is it at Wal-mart? Anyways, I really thank you for your support. I do feel that I will get through this, I just need to get some patients....really, I do. I will check weight watchers tomorrow, there is a meeting, I really think it will help if I can bring my kids, I feel thats what holds me back a lot in losing weight. I can't wait until I can look at my self and say...WOW!! thanks again Kelli. |

I bought mine from Borders Book Store - I don't know if they are available at Wal-Mart - I don't see why not!
Many of the book clubs have had it recently also. |
