Our 18 month old has another EI and we are going to see an ENT for a full check up and also to consider tubes. His doctor also thinks his speech is delayed. He understands what we say and we understand a lot of what he is trying to communicate but no real words other than "this" and" Mama and Dada"
I feel awful because I didn't know he had the infection again. No fever or anything. He has had them so often that I guess he is use to the pain.
Has anyone else gone through this with the ears? Was there improvement with speech and EI after tubes?

We went through the same thing with out toddler. He had ear infections around the same time, and has a speech delay. He did not need the tubes nor did he suffer any hearing loss that can be detected. But his speech did improve with therapy. We went through ECI, if your Pedi thinks he has a speech delay ask him about this so they can assess your baby. the sooner he gets therapy the better, they are really great here in our ISD. He may suggest a Speech Therapist if it it severe enough. Ours didn't, but your baby sounds a lot like ours at that time, our son started to get very frustrated and angry because no one could understand him. He is better now after learning more words.
Poor baby with the infections, but the tubes should make it a lot better. Our son has done really well with the therapy, he has significantly improved since he started 6 months ago. good luck! |
