My 14-month old son is already at the stage where he seems to want to give up one of his naps. Usually, he would nap for an hour to an hour and a half in the morning (say around 10:30/11:00) and then again in the afternoon around (3:00/3:30) and would go down at night around 8:00pm. These past weeks have been crazy because if he needs in the morning, he doesn't want to in the afternoon and then he wants to be up until 10:30 or later at night -- help me -- I'm sleep deprived! :-)
My new strategy over the past two days has been to keep him up until noon and then put him down for one (hopefully) long nap and then keep him up until 7:00 and start the night-time routine.
Is anyone going through this now and, what are you doing that's effective?
Thanks :-) Carol |

We did exactly what you are trying to do. My son was about 15 months when we dropped his morning nap. We kept him up until 12:00 by keeping him busy with a fun activity outside or something active. It takes a while for them to get used to being up longer, so they are crabby until they get used to it. At first we put him down at 12:00 and he would sleep for three hours. Since his morning nap was always about 1.5 hours and his afternoon nap was also 1.5 hours, the nap time ended up being the same for the day. We eventually moved his nap back to 1:00 and he still sleeps for 3 hours at 26 months. Stick with what you are doing. It will take some time for him to get used to the new routine, but it will be worth it. Try to be as consitent as possible. Life gets so much easier with one long nap instead of two short ones! |

What I found worked with my now 23 month old daughter is that she naps from 12 until 2 and goes to bed at 8:30. She then sleeps through the night for nearly 12 hours not waking up until 8 am. We have done this routine with her since she was 7 months old and it seems to work wonderfully for us. My 7 month old son is a completely different story....I can't get him to nap at all... and he doesn't sleep through the night, he's usually up at least twice and when he gets up it's for usually an hour..I'm hoping soon he'll get past this phase of not sleeping. |

Yes, we dropped the morning nap at around 18 months. My son now has one nap and goes down anywhere between 12 noon and 1pm. Sometimes he sleeps for 3 hours, sometimes only one hour, it changes everyday. |

My son has been taking one 2-3 hour nap per day since he was about 10 months old and he is now 20 months old. |

my DD was ready to drop to 1 nap when she turned 12month. Since she stop having my breast she is sleeping 12hrs. She sleeps in the afternoon for 2 hrs. and goes to bed around 9pm. Before she would go to bed at 10:300 or 11pm, wake up several times during the night to breastfeed and take mininaps during the entire day. I am so lucky now that she is on a rutine and sleeping through the night :D |
