I am a 35 yr old father of two children. My oldest is a 12 yr old girl. I'm just looking for friends to spend some time with so that she and I are doing things together. I don't want to lose our connection as she turns completely into a young woman :)
Great idea, Gary. I heard that the tween/teen years are an ideal time to spend doing things together with your teen and each parent should take the opposite sex child on a trip with just them to talk about growing up and mark the specialness of their being a teen. An example was a dad taking his daughter hiking/camping and talking to her about how young men should be treating her and to let her know she can always talk to him.
I always thought that was a good idea.
What would you like to get out of this group? What types of activities do you do?
Since I have a 2 year old son and a 12 year old daughter, my activities vary greatly. I go from cheer-leading practice to ice-skating, to Chuck-E-Cheese and the playground. The main thing I would like to get out of any parent group is two-fold. Being single, adult interaction is generally limited to family and the office. I could simply use a few new friends.
Since I am looking for new friends, I thought the best ones might be fellow parents. Not only can I make friends, but my kids can too. I can bounce ideas off of those parents and hear how they handle situations.
