What a wonderful Christmas gift. I am excited for you and your family. Did you request a boy? I was just curious since girls usually come home from China. All the to you.
It's more common for boys to be adopted with Special Needs. Our son (like our daughter was when we brought her home from China in 2007) has a repaired cleft lip and un-repaired cleft palate and we'll have that taken care of once we bring him home.
Also, boys are referred through the Non-Special Needs route as well, just not as often.
So if anyone is interested in adopting from China's Special Need Program, I'm the first one to say do it! I know it may seam scary and there some severe SN, but there are soooo many with minor correctable needs. Even healthy older children are on the SN list because of their age.
China ages children out of the adoption program once they turn 14. So there are even a few agencies out there that have waived fees or there are large grants given to help bring these kids home.
I'm a big advocate for China, because that's where my kids are from there so I have some experience with China. Now mind you we are looking at adopting from another country next time. We'll see where once we are ready to adopt again and where God wants us to go.
