Is too much sleep an issue?
My son is 18 months and the past 2 weeks he's changed his sleep habits a bit. He used to go to bed at 7 p.m. and sleep util 6, took 2 naps a day 1st nap around 9 a.m. and slept for 1.5 hrs and 2nd nap around 2 for 1 hr. He's now sleeping until 7 a.m. or longer and his 1st nap is around1.5 up to 3 hrs and his 2nd nap is 1 hr up to 2 hrs. I've had to wake him up before on his 2nd nap becuase it was getting late and I didn't want him to be up all night. I know that sleep is a good thing and I'm sure he's regulating himself, but I sometimes wonder if I should be worried that he is sleeping so much. Other friends with kids his age say their child has already dropped their morning nap. He's not even close to wanting to do that. His activity while he's awake seems normal, eats good, runs around, wants to play outside, etc. Any thoughts?

Children sleep more when they are growing, so it could be related to that. They also sometimes either increase how much they eat, or they may even decrease the amount. If it becomes to concerning, I would suggest mentioning it to your doctor to make sure all is ok.

My daughter is 20 1/2 months and she still takes 2 naps a day. She goes to bed between 8:30 and 9 and then gets up about 7/7:30 and takes a 1-1.5 hour nap around 10:30 and then a 2 hr nap around 2:30/3. Some days she sleeps more and sometimes less. It depends if she is teething or going thru a growing spurt.
I agree though if you are worried about it you should talk to your sons dr.

My daughter is 20 months old. She stopped taking 2 naps a day at 13 months old. Currently she goes to bed at 7-7:30 pm. She wakes up around 6:30-7am. She takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. At this age I believe they need 12-14 hours of sleep.

I found a couple wesites that might be helpful. They talk about how much sleep is needed for a toddler. Some people say they need 12 hours of sleep or so, and then some say anywhere from 8 to 16, so I guess it really depends who you ask, but here is some more info for you.
