Hi Sarah-
I have a 2 1/2 year old who is becoming the same way. All I can tell you is to be consistant with the time outs, don't threaten, do it. Its a pain and calls for all sorts of patience (which is a virtue remember!) BUT it will pay off. I see kids all around me that are older whose parents obviously were not consistant with the time outs or follow throughs because they are nightmares. They don't listen and mouth off to their parents something terrible, and why wouldn't they, there never have been or won't be any consequences accept "don't do that... or don't hit..."! I feel terrible becasue I actually have to hold my two year old down in a time out for 2 minutes. I set the timer on the stove and when it goes off, he has to apoligize for doing whatever, then I explain once he has calmed down why that happened, then we hug and kiss. SO, it ends peacfully, but man it is hard at the time. I know it will be extra hard to do this with another little one, but at least try. I hope that helps, I am starting to see the light and my little one is somewhat responding to the "DO YOU WANT A TIME OUT????" Amy |
