Hey everyone. My daughter is turning 1 this week, and I'm wondering - those of you that have experienced this - how was the transition from formula to milk? Should I make it a slow over and try to gradually encorporate it into her diet? I wouldn't want to upset her stomach or anything by introducing it to fast. Let me know your experences with this process! :) THANKS IN ADVANCE!! |

When my son hit the 1 year old mark, we just switched from formula to milk cold turkey. I think he actually preferred the milk over the formula. We also switched from bottles to sippy cups at the same time, which I think helped with the transition. Different cup = different drink! |

my son just turned 1 last Thursday...he had his 12mo check up that same day...That morning he had his last plain formula bottle, for his nap right after the dr appt he had a formula and milk bottle(half and half) then that night(the bed time bottle) was his first bottle of milk. He hasn't had a problem with it....his poop has changed a little, but I think that is due to the 3 cakes he had(one on thursday night, Saturday and sunday...we had 2 parties and I wanted him to have one on his bday) If she is on a milk based formula then I doubt that she'll have any problem at all.
Ok the only problem we had was that he didn't like it cold...I had to warm it up a little...I guess it was a bit too cold on his teeth, but that was it. |

Oh and we are also trying to get rid of the bottle BUT that is easier said than done for my son...or well, me. My son doesn't get a bottle durring the day, just sippy cups with either water or watered down juice OR milk. BUT bedtime, I can't seem to get him to take a sippy cup of milk at bedtime...but it hasn't even been a week yet so I figure by christmas he will be without bottles......I hope |

With my son we tried doing it at once, but he would not drink it. I had to put a couple of oz. in with his formula and every week add another 2 oz, and lessen the formula by 2 oz. Also he had drank his formula at room temp, and the milk was so cold to him he would not drink it. I think if I had thought about it before hand and heated the milk a little he would have switched all at once. But I had to heat the milk just enough to get the chill out. Like 18 sec in mic for about 7 or 8 oz. He had some troubles with the formula, he was on the lactose sensative, so I was worried about the switch. He does better on the milk. I have heard this a lot, so don't worry so much about upsetting the stomache. More than likely she will do just fine. |
