Hi everyone,
I had a question about going from two naps to one. My son is 13 months old and about a week ago he gave up his morning nap two days in a row but then went back to taking the morning nap in addition to his afternoon nap. He sleeps about 30 minutes in the morning and an hour and a half in the afternoon. He has pushed the morning nap back to a later time (used to be 9 now it's 10). A relative who has children told me that he is ready to be eased into taking just one nap but considering he is my first child I'm not sure how to go about helping him put the two naps together if that is even what he wants. Any advice? Thanks. |

Hey Denise. I too struggled with the napping thing with my son, who is now 3 and still takes a afternoon nap. I did the two naps a day until my son was almost two, one in the morning and then afternoon. It also depends how well and much they sleep at night, if they need the two naps. Does he sleep up to 10hrs during the night? That sort of thing. My son only sleeps about 8-9hrs. at night. |

hi Denise, i am sahm to 2 1/2 yo and 8month old. My oldest changed his nap routine about that time also-boy was I bummed, lol !! Mine slept and sleeps great at night. At that time he went down about 6:30 or 7:00pm. I didn't push that, that was just his internal clock i guess. When he really started resisting that morning nap, I moved lunch time up to about 11:00am but make sure you are eating breakfast early also or this won't work, and moved the afternoon nap to 12:-1:00pm. He was READY to go then usually. If he is too cranky u might try giving him his bath after lunch as this usually will wear them out. Hope this helps. Good luck |

He is right on schedule as far as age is concerned and if you combine the naps you will get a nice 2 hours in the mid day. and he will be ready for nighty nite.by 7pm.and lunch should be 11:30-then nap.from 12-2 snack when he gets up best is friut not to spoil dinner 5:30-6 latest and bedtime routine till 7. how good of a sleeper is he at night how many hours> seven to 6 or seven is what my 2 year old daughter does. |

if you find that somedays more than others he is doing two naps try pushing him 15 minutes more each day.everyday add 15 minutes until you are at the time slots suggested 11:30 lunch and yes feed him lunch(prefferably) or a snack he will sleep better and longer for those two hours. this worked awesome for me and my katie. she went from being up by 7 down for an hour at 9:30 -10 then down for an hour again around 1 or two now she does one nap miday 12:30-1 till about 2:30-3 and still sleeps a good 7-7 nightly |

Hello, My son stopped taking his morning nap like that when he was about his age and I would just go along with it. He eventually was down to one nap a day. He is 2 years old now and just does the 1 nap a day. I say that when he wants to take one let them because they get cranky if they don't get the extra rest, but if they don't, then don't force him to, that will just make him more tired for his afternoon nap which will might give you a little more of a break if he sleeps longer!!! Good Luck. |

my youngest stopped taking a morning nap all on his own when he was only 6 months old. He is now almost 2 and still takes just one nap. I do lunch at 12:30 and then he goes down for his nap at 2 and sleeps until 4! My 3 year old hasn't been taking naps for about 6 months now. I think of it has to do with how much sleep they are getting at night. Both of my boys go to bed at 9 and sleep until 8:30-9 in the morning! |
