Hi Summer,
I'm sorry to hear that your going through such a difficult time, especially with the way things have been going in the economy lately. Maybe you should start by trying to discover the REAL reason why he doesn't want to work. I'm sure he's aware of what's going on. No one should make a CONCIOUS effort not to work unless they don't have too. |

HI Summer, I have 4 boys. My husband does have a good job but he sits in his lazy boy chair as soon as he gets home. I can hardly stand to be in the same room he's in...I don't know what to say about the job thing other than maybe he is depressed. Did he get fired recently? Depression can make people turn into very selfish people. It's becuz they just do not care about anything. Maybe you could put his resume on monster.com or some of the other job searches. Or if he doesn't have a resume make one and send it out yourself. I know that's you doing the work but...it would help you feel better knowing something was being done. |

hi, I'm not married but my boyfriend is the same way. He doesn't like to work, every job that he's had I've found, and he always says that it isn't right for him and quits or gets fired. Could be due to his anger issues but I'm not there so I can't exactly call his boss and find out. Anyways, he'd much rather sit at home and play videogames, despite that fact that he'll be 30 this year. I am stuck with what to do. I want things for myself and our son, who is 11 months old today, he can't even pay the rent on time, how can he afford a house, or anything of value? I'm stuck, I don't know how to haddle him, or what to say to motivate him....I didn't have that much ambition before my son was born, but since his birth I want nothing more to provide everything and anything that he could possibly want.... Sadly, my only option here has been to keep a secret stash of money for my son and I if we need anything, if he knew about it, he would never do anything!!
any advice ? |

Yes, I believe he may be depressed too. You just have to jolt him into it, and once he gets in to it and gives it his all it will build confidence. That jolt is the biggest hurdle. That could mean some thing as simple as your help finding a job, or a long hard talk, or even an ultimatuim. I hope you can make it through this tough time. I feel like if he loves you and the baby, then he'll do what is hoonorable and do whatever it takes, even if it means getting a job a McDonald's or Wal-Mart ( I'm not knocking these employees, but everyone has to start somewhere). |

Wow, I'm slowly slipping into this same exact situation. My husband has had 5 jobs in the past 6 years and is currently unemployed but not due to the economy but by his own careless doings! Today he stayed in bed all day and woke up just in time for dinner and the kids bed time. Now he's at home in a peaceful quiet house and i'm at work doing the night-shift!
I know it seems like he's depressed but what the hell, snap out of it, we are about to have 3 kids! man up already? don't know what to do. I fear only the worst. I'm seriously thinking about divorce. |
