It could be food allergies, laundry detergent, pet dander, dust, chlorine in his bath water, after a viral infection, etc... Your job (unfortunately) is to take all the these things and figure it out.
Since your asking for help, here's what I would do. First, google 'the most allergenic food for toddlers' and check to see if your little one is eating any of these foods (eggs are on the list). I would take these foods out of his diet for 2-3 weeks then rotate them back in, one at a time, for 3 days in a row. If no reaction, you're good. If the reaction returns, discontinue feeding him the food(s) causing the reaction. If you want a definitive answer, you can ask your pediatrician for a food allergy test. This will indicate any foods in which he is allergic.
Secondly, make sure you are using a very mild pediactric detergent. I was using one with my son, but it was 2X concentrated, so I was accidentally putting in too much and it caused him to have a rash. Once we found the problem, the rash disappeared.
Finally, try to notice if your son gets the rash after a bath. Our son is in swim lessons, and our water contains a lot of chlorine. We noticed he would get a rash after swim lessons and taking a bath (we bathe him every other day). We are currently in the process of getting our water softener hooked back up and a carbon filter for the tub to filter out the chlorine.
If none of these things helps, start thinking outside of the box...cleaning products, dust, dander, etc...
Rashes are very common, and unfortunately, can come from almost anwhere. Good luck! |

Did he have a fever a few days before the rash broke out?? If so that could be roseolla rash(infant's rash). My daughter caught it a couple months ago. There's no medicine for it and it doesn't bother the baby. If you push on the rash and it goes white then back to the color, then it most likely is that. It follows a fever, usually they have a fever for about 3 days of 102 or higher, as long as you keep the temp. down there's nothing to worry about. Its nothing you can vaccinate against either. |
