I have a 15 month old who will not sleep through the night! I put him to bed around 7pm and by 12 he's up and screaming! Then, to top it off he's up by 5:30am ready to go! This has been going on for a few months and I'm getting to the point where I can't stand it. He still takes 2 naps a day and it a pretty active little boy. Does anyone have any words of advice???? I will try anything at this point. |

My first question would have to be how long his naps are lasting during the day. My son started to sleep through the night early on (around 3 or 4 months). What I would suggest is to try to get him attached to something that can comfort him in the middle of the night, so he can try to put himself back to sleep. My son has has "blankie" (small blankie that we don't let leave the house). The other thing you can try that I swear by to a white noise machine/soothing sounds machine. You can buy them from Conair for around $20 (worth every penny when your sanity is at stake). We purchased one at a yard sale for my sons room and another one for our room. It helps us all sleep through the night and blocks out any midnight cries. Now my son has learned to cope for himself at night (of course if he's sick this all changes). GOOD LUCK! |

Just so you know you are not alone, I have a 2 year old thst still wakes often at night. We have tried crying it out, co sleeping, everything!! She still wakes up most nights. Some babies are just wired differently :) Have you tried consolidating his naps into one nap. I think by that age my daughter was was down to one nap a day.He may be ready for that transition. Worth a try to see if it helps his nighttime sleep. We also use a noise machine, too. |

Well, he does have a favorite stuffed animal, which is in his crib with him. I have always had a white noise maker in his room and I've tried all 3 different levels. I've tried having him take 1 big nap but by 11:00 he is so over tired that he either won't go to sleep after crying for an hour or the nap will only last about 1 1/2 hrs. And then he's ready to go to bed by 5! I feel like I've tried everything...crying it out, cosleeping. I have heard that a lot of children will wake up in the middle of the night if they go to bed to late. I'm wondering if I should be putting him down to bed around 6:30. It seems so early to me but I feel like I need to try anything. I'm still wecome to anything new! Thank you ladies. |

I had the same issue with my little one, but I started putting him to bed around 8:30 pm. Unfortunately he still does wake up once a night around 2 am but then he doesn't wake up until 7:30 - 8:00 am.. Hope this helps you.. |

So it looks like he sleeps about 10 hours... try putting him to bed a little later if 5:30 is just way to early. Move your schedule later and only give him 1 nap... he'll get used to it and then he'll sleep longer with both naps and bedtime. The first week is always hardest but if you stick to it it will work. :) |

Oh my gosh!! I'm going through the exact same thing except my son is 12 months. I've had 3-4 hrs sleep for the past week and I'm GOING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be sooo tired after going through this for months. How recently did he start walking or is he walking yet? I heard this changes the brain so much that babies often regress for awhile in various areas of development, including sleep. I'm hoping that's what's going on with my son, Aaron. I'd also like any suggestions. Wish I had ideas to offer, but we're just kind of hanging in there and soothing him almost back to sleep. Another mom I met this week said her son sleeps from 7-5 and that's the 10 hrs he gets and she just gets up with him. I'm trying to accept that that may be my new schedule too, because Aaron is ready to go about 5 also. It's hard!!!! |

Karin, Is your child teething? Also, you might want to put him down at 8 pm, and if you are not in a routine you might want to think about one. Usually, if you have a routine they know that it is time for them to go to bed for the night. |

Hi, Karin/Moms - If this helps as consolation: I am a complete basket case b/c I have been sleeping for only 2 h stretches for the past 14 months. I have lost contact with friends, family, and feel like I have aged a thousand years. I suppose this is not making you feel that much better - but I just wanted to say that my little one is healthy, happy, talkative, and thriving - but is following the same schedule as your little one. Since she was 4 months old (she's 14 months now) she takes 2 naps - one at 11am and another one at 5:30pm. Then when she "goes to bed" (she wakes up in an hour from her 5:30pm nap) at 8, she will wake up at 10pm, or 12am, then at 2, 4,6. At 6 or maybe a little earlier she is all smiles and giggles and ready to hit the day. I have been dying little by little with every day that passes. Here's the problem - she is also almost exclusively on the boob. She will not eat much of anything else. A couple of tspns of solid food constitutes a full meal to her. And, I cannot jerk her off the breast b/c she has a fair number of food allergies. (And, did I mention she has teeth? Yes, I desperately need a support group myself) Anyway - this is what I am going to try to do: do away with the evening nap, protect the morning nap (11am), feed her something reasonable along with the breast at 7pm and put her to bed at 8pm. We have vowed to spend thanksgiving this year trying to stick with this schedule. If it works, this will indeed be the best Christmas gift that I shall ever receive. Will keep you posted.
PS: she's a darling and the joy of my life, but I really hope I can survive motherhood. |
