I realized I never answered all your questions. My daughters are 2 1/2 and 7. I do like it here. We moved here from San Diego about 5 years ago. It is a much smaller city. But I have gotten used to it. I do not miss the freeways! He commuted for 3 years before he took a job up near our house. I do not miss the commuting at all.

I do know where your located, however Ive never been there before. I lived a much smaller town than Im in now, and there are pro's and con's to both. I think overall I enjoyed the smaller town better. Now that we have children, I think we are around too much crime and violence here, Stockton can be really bad. It sucks cause we bought our house when homes were priced high, now we're stuck here for a while.
It could be worse I guess :0)

You are right it could be worse! Our city has come to the point where we will be in the hole next year as far as the budget. They had such a crazy growth and now things are drasticly the opposite! They are deciding how to cut the budget by 20% and that is affecting our safety(police and fire). They tried to pass a tax but of course nobody wants to put out and more money now. So now they are going to be doing lay offs from both departments. It is not safe to do that but they feel it is their only choice. So now my husbands job is on the line. He has been at this job for almost two years now but if that happens then it was stupid to have left his old department. What a waste!

I think your situation is terriable, Im sorry. Thankfully there has been no talk of my husband losing his job, infact they're continuing to hire new people to start the academy. Probably cause the crime is so awful here. I think the economy everywhere has suffered drastically, if this isn't a depression it sure feels like one to me. If you ever wanted to move to Northern Cali, Im sure he could get a law enforcement job over here. We always need good officers :0)
I feel so bad because we are living paycheck to paycheck we are thinking of ways to save $. One of the things we may have to do is get rid of Gymnastics for my daughter. She's 4, almost 5 and has been doing it for 2 1/2 yrs. I stay home with my kids and shes not in kindergarten until '09, its all she has. Im tempted to sell myself to make the extra $$$ (just kidding), I just feel so bad that she might have to give it up, ya know?

Tell me about it! We are pay check to pay check also. Sure hope if he does loose it we have notice. It takes nonths to get a law enforcement job and unemlpoyment would never work! I can relate to what you aresaying about gymnastics. My oldest has been dancing since she was 2 and she is now 7. She is even on a competition team. My youngest just started gymnastics as well in august. Isn't it crazy how much they get away with charging for everything now. I would feel so bad if I had to take everything away. They really love it!
Have you always lived in northern California? We travel up there sometimes. My husband grew up in Oregon and he also has family we visit in Modesto and a few of the surrounding areas.
posted by Tiffany on 11/18/2008 07:01 PM | edit | delete

Well at least we can relate to eachother, that's for sure!
I have always lived in northern california. My husband and I grew up in a really small town east of stockton. When we decided to buy a house they were sky high in price. Thats why we live in stockton, cause houses were cheaper, not by preference believe me.
Dont get me wrong I value everything we have, I just want to feel safe at night, we aren't used to this kind of town.
I go to Modesto from time to time, they have a great mall there and restaurants that we dont have in stockton.
My husband and I have talked about moving out of state, we thought Oregon would be nice. My husbands co worker moved there for a few years and now hes moving back here. That makes me a little scared of ever leaving.
So what do you do for fun with your kids? What are you hobbies, what do you like to do?
posted by Melanie on 11/19/2008 02:00 PM | edit | delete

Ya we can relate can't we. To bad we live so far apart it would be nice to meet. We have gone to that mall in Modesto that you mentioned. It was pretty nice. I know what you mean about wanting to live where you feel safe at night. That is what I am worried might happen if the get rid of all those officers. I am not just worried about his job but the area! I do like Oregon but I am not sure if I could live there. It rains so much I would probably be depressed. But the biggest problem is my mother in law. I might just be divorced if we lived near her and I am not exagerating. She is way way down on my list of people I would choose to be arround. She is pretty evil and selfish! Sorry thats some crazy stories for another day! But I do have to say CRAZY!!!!! We have looked into a city in Colorado. It is tempting but scary at the same time. First what would we do about our house and second it is not California so even his retirment would have to start over. Lets see...what do I like to do....hmmm....boy after how many years and 2 kids later thats a tuffer question to answer. I do love to scrapbook but finding the time is another story. Like to shop but try to stay away from that now. I enjoy just spending time with friends. I am not a home body. I like to get out and away no matter what we really choose to do. We have alot of familys we are friends with from my husbands work so we hang out alot going to each others houses for bbq's out to pizza places etc... With in the last year we bought a trailer and we like to go camping. I do not miss a tent at all! Its great! We also belong to a camp resort now that is only about 30 min's from our house up the mountain. They have so many great things for the kids to do etc... One of these days we are going to take a adult only camping trip and try out the adult ammenities. I am very in volved in what my kids do. 3 nights a week we are at the dance studio. I am in a play group for and a gifted childrens group. I help at school and am a vp on pta. I am an assistant leader for girlscouts and on school site council and on and on and on! Ha! Ha! I know I need to learn to say no. Next year I am going to! Man since I have had my kids I guess the things about me have disapeared. Its crazy how I can go on and on about what I do for them but have a hard time saying stuff that is just about me. So enough about me. Tell me about you.

By the way I think Annette is from Oregon. Maybe she could tell us what she thinks about it! :-)

Hey Tiffany. Wow... you sound like an exceptionally involved parent! Unfortunately my daughter doesn't start school until 2009 and Im sure I will become involved. I think if you can contribute, its great! I look forward to donating my time at some point. For a long time I was a full-time employee, mother and wife. Me and my hubby hardly saw eachother and we paid an arm and a leg to have someone else raise the kids in daycare. Its really not an ideal situation. Its so nice to be home, I raise them exactly how I want them raised. As much as I love being at home, we are barely making it and Im afraid I may have to go back to work soon. The thought of it is devastating. I need to figure out how to make money at home, I dont know what to do though. Im afraid to sign up for anything cause you never know if its a scam.
Anyway, enough about my sob story, there are a few things I really enjoy! I love to sing (Yes Im a karoke junkie...LOL) and scrapbooking is great! It is so time consuming, by the time I get everything out, my kids need me.
I like sewing and crafty projects. I like camping, we still use a tent. We need a trailer but my husband is the total "mans man", he thinks its not tough enough or something.....idiot! I would love a trailer!!
Although I have several friends that are great, my mom is the best one ever! I love just being with her, we have the best time together. She understands me like no other.
I love 4 wheelin, as crazy as it sounds.
I also enjoy exercising, swimming, hiking, anything that gets my blood flowing.
We love wine tasting. We are frequent visitors to the bay area, we love the ocean and beach!
If you ask my husband my favorite thing is texting. We had to sign me up for an unlimited texting plan so I wouldn't go over...LOL :0) Yes, I can be a pain in the ass but he's way worse!
These are just things I like to do, rarely get to do them though. There are other things I used to like doing but lost over time. Sounds like thats your story too. I think you& I would get along great...too bad we not closer, I could use people that understand my situation.
Well I hope you have a great weekend..talk to you soon :0) Oh and BTW..I have a crazy MIL too!!!

Funny I hate texting! Only because I am slow and I can get my point across much quicker just talking. Maybe if I had a phone with an actual typing key pad I would like it more.

I used to feel the same way but I got really fast. Its like my friends and sisters refuse to call anymore. Funny how different the world gets, isn't it?
