medical scare
Hi Moms,

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience so I can have some "direction" when I go to my doc appointment in 10 days!!!

So I have been menstrating heavy for a long period of time. Accompaning the heaviness is an achy pain. At first was for 8 weeks, I was suffering from anemia went to the doc, got my IUD taken out thinking that was the cause. I was ok for a week. & now its back :(

I looked into fibroid symptoms and saw that it could be that, not sure though what the pain is all about. Just wanted to see if any moms had a similar history if so I could look into it and address it with the doctor as a possibility!

Prayers and info would be helpful!!!!!

I don't know if its the same thing, but i was recently diagnosed with pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) For 2 years i bled everyday and had outrageous cramps and found out that this was caused by the depo shot i had gotten, it hadn't stopped after i quit the shot, when i got on the pill it slowed down to getting my period every other week but was still extremely heavy. after i had my son I stopped getting my periods and began having trouble with my vision, they tested my blood and found that my hormone levels were crazy out of whack. after changing several things in my diet and changing my birth control to level out my hormones i have started getting my period on a normal every 28 days for 3 days each month. It may be the same thing, i know the symptoms could be a number of things, but its something to look into

It sounds like endometriosis. I had it for about 15 years. I had a hysterectomy about 3 years ago. The best thing is to talk with the Dr. Everyone is going to have a different diagnosis, which is going to make you nuts! Good luck to you.

Candice,

I have not experienced anything like this so I don't have any info that would be helpful but I will be thinking of you and wishing you luck at the doctor. Hang in there!!

Your pain and bleeding could be from a multitude of female issues. Best bet is to meet with your doc where he/she will probably do some imaging (usually ultrasound). Then you can go from there. Right now, without imaging, and possibly labs, all you have is anxiety and speculation. Good luck with your visit!

I have horrible periods!! I bleed so heavy that I am changing my tampon (super plus ones), sometimes every 30 minutes.. The really heavy days about (3 days), come with horrible cramps and huge (silver dollar size) blood clots at times! I have to take more than the normal does of Ibprophen or tylenol to help with the cramps.. I am sorry to say that I haven't had a checkup in about 2 1/2 yrs (since I had my son). We didn't have insurance for a while so, I couldn't go to the Dr. I do have an appointment in December so we will see. I hoping they will just say lets just take everything out and then I won't have to worry about periods anymore!! But, I understand about how bad it can be. i too bruise very easily.. I don't know why but, I can hit my leg or arm and the next day or hours later I have a huge blue/gray/green bruise. my periods usually last from 7-10 days and have horrible heavy bleeding/cramping and clots for about 3-4 days.. and sometimes after 10 days I will start to spot off and on. I too appreciate everyone's information on this.. once I go to the Dr. in December we will know more and hopefully get rid of all this.. I have had two c-sections and after the second on I got my tubes tyed.

Thanks everyone!
I wanted to get some ideas of what it could be since I have limited insurance right now since my hubby's job's benefits don't start for awhile...
& unfortunately my experience with the clinic doctors have not been too pleasant, I look 10 years younger than I am and they see me with 2 kids, and their tone and demeanor is so unpleasant & they do not take me seriously. So the next appointment I wanted to be more agressive in what to ask them to check for instead of leaving it up to them because I know they aren't as concerned as I am and will just send me home.
So I appreciate all the input...I now know for sure my symptoms are in no way normal, the endometriosis was a good one, my symptoms definitely match!

Candice,
I had very similiar to what you are talking about 8 years ago. i was dealthly ill from the anemia due to bleeding so much and heavy. always a dull ache and cramping.
i was going to a clinic and was sent to a GYN for further workup. well i had a tumor in the back of my uterus and was casuing the bleeding. all said and done they gave me a Lupron shot that put me into pre menapause for a few months to stop the bleeding and the tumor shrank so i did not need surgery.
i would see about going to a GYN and getting an ultrsound so they can be alittle more decise on what might be wrong!
anemia is horrible. i till this day battle with anemia from the loss of blood i suffered, it was so bad right before they found out what it was they said i might need a blood transfussion. thank god i did not.
good luck and keep us posted.

Candice,

I experienced similar symptoms 3 yrs ago with fibroids. I had them removed and the pain and occassional bleeding stopped. I hope you and your doctor figure out what is causing your pain/bleeding too. My prayers are with you. Please keep me posted.

Hi! I used to have the same problems. Diagnosed with EVERYTHING in the female book! I started researching chemicals and hormonal disrupters and found that there is good reason to believe that behind all of it is as simple as staying away from chemical makeup, BPA and non-organic meat and milk. I have been doing this for over a year and have not had a bad period since, no bad paps, no ovarian cysts. There are alot of enviornmental factors involved.

Good Luck. I'm thinking of you

You're exactly right Lauren. Almost all female issues are related to either too much estrogen, or too little progesterone. Estrogen and progesterone are supposed to evenly balance each other out. If one has too little progesterone, then by default, too much estrogen is present. One can accumulate what are called xenoestrogens from the environment, as you mentioned (the list of them is too long, so google 'xenoestrogens'). Also, some women have a defect in the way they are supposed to break down estrogen. It doesn't get broken down properly, so it continuously circulates throughout the body. This can cause a multitude of female problems. To get more info on this google 'estrogen dominance'. Good advice Lauren.

Whats BPA?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisphenol_A

BPA is a dangerous toxin found in plastics and canned goods. Many of your baby's bottles and/or toys have it. I call all companies to make sure my products don't contain it. It is banned in other countries but not ours. Plastic number 7's have a GREAT possibility of having BPA in them.

Don't heat up plastics or put hot foods in them. keep your kids away from it.

I'm suprised a couple of you haven't heard of this horrible thing.

Please research it. Our own government is starting to rethink their stand on the issue, once saying small amounts are safe. Funny how Canada a couple of months ago banned the use of BPA in products for children under the age of 5!

Again, PLEASE research it. Google it. Anything. This is a very important subject you need to educate yourself on.

I use Avent Bottles (Phillips Avent), availableat Target, Wal-mart & Babies R Us. They are BPA free and affordable (about $4 each)

Is the number the same number that's on the bottom of water bottles (for recycling) if not where would you find it?

It should always have a triangle around the number. If not, call the company.

#1 only use once. If you refill and wash it can cause buildup of bacteria (water bottles)

#2 usually safe

#3 NEVER USE. contains PVC. Extremely unsafe. Replace chew toys, shower curtains and inflateable toys. Contains Vinyl.

#4 Safe

#5 Safe

#6 NEVER USE VERY UNSAFE

#7 WORST OF ALL. USUALLY CONTAINS BPA. NEVER USE WITH FOOD. Lots of baby bottles are/were used of this plastic since they are clear and hard. They do not break easily.

Stick with plastic that is cloudy colored and bendable.

Use glass more often, especially in a microwave

I've heard of this but these are great details~ thanks for sharing!

Lauren,

Regarding the #7 bottles. Can I use this for a water bottle for myself? I always keep the water cold, and never leave out in the heat. Should I trash this?
posted by Bonnie on 11/24/2008 12:31 PM

#7 USUALLY contains BPA and is unsafe for EVERYONE! However, #7 means it is a compilation of many different plastics. Polycarbonates I believe are the BAD ONES and they contain BPA. You need only call the company or to be sure just NEVER use #7! Most water bottles are #1 anyhow. I believe Hinkley uses #7 for the BIG jugs and they told me they are BPA free. To be sure just call the company

WOW Lauren, thank you for all of the info. Very helpful. I heard that some plastics were unsafe. But, you really gave more and better details on this subject.

Candice, I have PCOS (I don't have normal periods and when I do have one, they are light and for not many days - sometimes this is not a good thing...it would be nice to get rid of the bloating and all of the other symptoms that I still get regardless) - another symptom with this condition is that I feel horrible physically sometime - doctor treated this condition on me as if i had type II diabetes. I am no longer on any medication for the pcos, not since before my son was born. I am starting to feel bad again and i think my condition is acting up...and i think this bc of my diet and lack of exercise. So, the girls above made some great points about diet, etc. But anyway, I really don't have anything else to share, but I wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers! Take care!!!!
