Christmas
Hi ladies,
I'm curious as to how you handle Christmas with your children. My kiddos are 4.5 and 20 months; my son loves telling anyone and everyone that Christmas is about the birth of Christ, not Santa Claus, but we are getting to the age where MOST people are discussing Santa and presents with him. He could care less about the presents and santa, but other children are really into it. I am starting to feel like a total outcast in our moms group/circle of friends, because I am not all about Santa or the gifts and neither are our kids. Any advice on how I can handle this? I get so sick of people saying "why doesn't he believe in Santa?" "Don't you do gifts?" and other things...thank you ;)

Hi Chrissi -

I would make this an opportunity to "plant a seed" and say simply for you and your family, it's about Jesus and celebrating his birth..

I know it doesn't seem like much, but believe me it will make a statement without sounding critical of their questions.

Hope this helps.

Blessings-

Cathy

Chrissi, I know how you feel. Just keep on sharing the good news about our Lord Jesus Christ to them and pray for them. Believe that God will take care of it. Surely you and your children will be blessed.

I just think you should know that you are teaching your kids the true meaning of Christmas and that is awesome! And just tell everyone who asks you those questions, that you are teaching your kids the true meaning of Christmas. Maybe they will ask you more about that and you can share the true meaning with them.

We are teaching our daughter that Christmas is Jesus birthday but we are also doing santa and when she asks we are going to tell her that there was a man named St Nick and that he helped people at Christmas time and that is how santa was brought into be a part of Christmas.

Don't worry about what other people say or think it is your family and your discision. Hope this helps. I think that we will run into the same thing when our daughter is a little older with my husbands family. Let me know how it goes, and good luck.

It is the greatest lesson to teach your kid that "we as a family" do one thing because of our faith even when the world is doing something else.

My kids will have to sit alot of stuff out, however I just plan to celebrate in our own way our own occasions so they still have fun because following God is true fun!!!!
