I have a 4-month old boy and I have been back to work for a month. It hasn't been easy but the fact that my mom watches him while I work has made it easier. Now my mom decided she'll go back to work in a couple of months and I need to find a daycare. I just don't even know where to start. I work different shifts at different places on different days so it's hard to predict my schedule. I enjoy what I do and I like the company I work for so I didn't want to find another job. I also worry that they won't take very good care of him. He's pretty high maintenance and requires a lot of attention. I keep hoping my mom will change her mind but I know that she shouldn't feel obligated to watch my son.

Finding a good day/night care is not easy. Try looking for one that is 24-7 that will work with your schedule. Since you have some time you can hunt around for one that both you and your son like. Most daycares will understand that a 4 month old requires a lot of attention, and they will give it to him. But they will also teach him to entertain himself, which is something all children need to learn. Hope your search goes well!

Thanks Amanda. Our whole family has been sick for a couple of weeks so I haven't had a chance to look for a daycare ye. I'm also waiting to get a permanent position so I will have a set schedule. I hope it works out so I can plan daycare a little better. My son has gotten a lot calmer and he's able to entertain himself a lot better. How do you know if you chose the right daycare? Any tips?

fyi: one thing that a friend suggested to me when i was looking for a daycare was to ask how many families have more than 1 child there. you know the daycare is good if a lot of families stayed with their 2nd child...

Thanks Cathy. I have found a daycare but they didn't have any opening until September. I met the director and the teachers. My friend's two kids used to go there before she became a stay-at-home mom. My coworker's two kids also go there. I have had several recommendations for this place and I'm hoping my son will do well there. I'll let you know after he starts.
