I have known a few people in the past that had diabetes.... some had to take shots and check their sugar with a meter. My mil was borderline and had to check her sugar. Is this something that young diabetics must do as well as adults? If so about how much does all of this cost each month?

I check my daughters blood sugars 8-10 a day, morning and night. She is on a insulin pump that uses novolog a fast acking insulin. Her meter is paired to her pump so we are limited to using the one touch testing strips. Along there are also cartridges and insets for her pump and othe misc suppies. having her on the pump is MUCH more expensive then shots and insulin, but with insurance it is doable. our insurance is very good for a kid with diabetes and on a pump. our out of pocket is now less than $100 a month. but on other insurance it was over our $3000 max out of pocket a year. |

Wow I didn't know it could be so involved and expensive, especially for young diabetics. I am going to post some information about a diabetic plan that is offered through my company. For people who aren't covered by insurance or are underinsured this program may relieve them of some difficult hardships. Thank You for giving me the information, I think I should have become a nurse or have gotten into the medical field because I love to learn about different medical problems, cures, and treatments. Good Luck with your sweet heart... will she be able to outgrow this or is it a lifetime condition? Warmest regards Roxanne |

Lifelong. She is type 1. type 2 diabetics can sometimes contol thier condition with with diet and exercise and not medication, but usually that means a life change.
But of course they are looking for a cure. Adults can get a pancreas/kidney transplant if thuer diabetes was uncontrolled and has severly damaged the kidneys. But that is resevered for the most severe cases, since diabetes is controllable. |
