I am thinking about potty training my 2 and a half year old and I was wondering if people are giving a treat for sitting on the potty and not going or only giving a treat or sticker when they actually go potty. My son does not have much interest in sitting on the potty now but he did a while back and lost the interest. Any advice on how to start the training and get him excited about going on the potty. He does not care about big boy underwear and we have read books and watched potty time elmo and other things. |

I can totally relate to your problem. My youngest daughter who is now three and a half was the same way about potty training. She seemed interested when we first started working on potty training but then she seemed to decide that potty training wasn't her thing. I tried many different things like buying her new panties, etc. Nothing worked. I nearly drove myself and her crazy because she is very strong willed and things got really ugly the times that I tried to force the issue. I finally decided that the fight was not worth it and that I would worry more about potty training if she got to be three or four and was still not using the potty. I am glad to say that after I backed off and stopped pushing the issue my daughter changed her mind about using the potty. When she decided that it was time to start using the potty things went very smoothly. I also have a older daughter and I would point out things that my older daughter could do that she could not because she didn't go to the potty and it helped some. So don't lose heart it will happen. |

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I have backed off on pushing the potty. I ask him now and then if he wants to try and he says no and I say okay and move on. I won't be surprised if my one year old daughter starts before him. Hopefully he will show interest soon!
