Directions
From NJ Turnpike:

Take NJ Turnpike to EXIT 15W. Take Rte. 280 WEST to EXIT 10. Turn LEFT at the light. TBZ is about 3 miles away on the left.

From the Garden State Parkway:

Take Garden State Parkway ( North or South) to EXIT 145. Then take Rte.280 WEST to EXIT 10. Turn LEFT at the light. Turtle Back Zoo is about 3 miles away on the left side.

From Rte. 280 West:

Take Rte.280 WEST to EXIT 10. Turn Left at the light. TBZ is about 3 miles away on the left.

From Rte. 280 East:

Take Rte. 280 EAST to EXIT 7. At the traffic light turn LEFT onto Pleasant Valley Way. Go to the 2nd light and turn LEFT onto Northfield Ave. TBZ is about a quarter of a mile on the right side.

From Rte. 80 East:

Take Rte.80 EAST to Rte.280 EAST. Take Rte.280 EAST to EXIT 7. At the traffic light turn LEFT onto Pleasant Valley Way. Go to the 3rd light and turn LEFT onto Northfield Ave. The zoo is about a quarter of a mile on the right side.

From Rte. 80 West:

Take Rte.80 West to Garden State Parkway or NJ Turnpike.

From Rte.23:

Take Rte.23 SOUTH to Bloomfield Ave. As you cross Bloomfield Ave, the name changes to Prospect Ave. Take Prospect Ave all the way to the end. At the traffic light turn RIGHT onto Northfield Ave. Turtle Back Zoo is about 1 mile on the left side.

From Rte.287:

Take Rte.287 SOUTH to Rte.80 EAST. Rte.80 EAST to Rte.280 EAST. Take Rte.280 EAST to EXIT to EXIT 7. At the traffic light turn LEFT onto Pleasant Valley Way. Go to the 3rd light and turn LEFT onto Northfield Ave. The zoo is about a quarter mile on the right.

From JFK BLVD:

Coming from Summit, Chatam and Madison areas: Take JFK NORTH into Livingston. Make a RIGHT onto Northfield Ave. Turtle Back Zoo is about 4 miles down on your right side.

From Rte.10:

Take Rte.10 EAST to Livingston Circle. As you go around you will see a sign for Northfield Ave. Get on Northfield Ave. Turtle Back Zoo is about 4 miles down on your right side.

From Rte.78 East:

Take Rte. 78 EAST to EXIT 49A. Take exit 49A onto Springfield Ave. Make a RIGHT onto Main St. Turn Right onto Brookside Drive/ Paper Mill Way. Make a slight LEFT at Cherry Lane. Then make a RIGHT onto Northfield Ave. The Turtle Back Zoo is about a quarter of a mile on your right.

From Rte.78 West:

Take Rte. 78 WEST. Continue STRAIGHT on Rte. 24 West. Take EXIT 9A. Merge onto Morris and Essex Turnpike. Make a LEFT onto Millburn Ave. Turn LEFT onto Main St. Turn RIGHT onto Brookside Drive/ Paper Mill Way. Make a slight LEFT at Cherry Lane. Then make a RIGHT onto Northfield Ave. The Turtle Back Zoo is about a quarter of a mile on your right.

From South Orange Ave:

Take South Orange Ave to South Mountain Reservation. In the reservation you will see a light (*note if you are coming from Newark on S. Orange Ave, you will turn right, if you are coming from Livingston on S. Orange Ave you will turn left). This traffic light is Cherry Lane. Take Cherry Lane to the traffic light and turn RIGHT. Turtle Back Zoo is about a quarter of a mile on the right side.

From GW Bridge, Holland and Lincoln Tunnels:

Follow signs from the GW Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel or Holland Tunnel to the Garden State Parkway or NJ Turnpike then: From the NJ Turnpike: Take NJ Turnpike to EXIT 15W. Then take Rte.280 WEST to EXIT 10. At the traffic light turn LEFT onto Pleasant Valley Way. Go to the 3rd light and turn LEFT onto Northfield Ave. Turtle Back Zoo is about a quarter of a mile on the right.

Or from the Garden State Parkway: Take Garden State Parkway (North or South) to exit 145. Then take Rte.280 WEST to EXIT 10. Turn LEFT at the light. Turtle Back Zoo is about 3 miles away on the left side.

From Staten Island:

Take Outer Bridge to Garden State Parkway North. Then follow Parkway directions to the zoo.

Zoo Rides
Endangered Species Carousel - Visitors of all ages can take a spin on our endangered species carousel. Ride on a panda, alligator, a tiger or one of the 30 other rare creatures featured on this unique ride that was custom built for Turtle Back Zoo. Housed inside a beautiful classic carousel house with mosaic floors and stained glass windows, this year round attraction is perfect in any weather. Fee: $2
Pony Rides - Located on the Essex Farm, children can take a nice ride in the shade on one of the zoo's gentle ponies. children must be over 2 years old to ride. There is a height restriction to ride the ponies, so guests should check the posted signs to see if their child is too tall to ride. Pony rides are open April through October and are weather permitting. Fee: $2
Train - Departing from Turtle Back Junction, the zoo's miniature train ride takes visitors through the beautiful South Mountain Reservation. The train is a perfect way to cool down on a hot day. The train departs approximately every 15 minutes from the station and is wheelchair accessable. Train rides are included with the price of admission.


Mommy and Me Program
Turtle Back Zoo's Mommy and Me programs are designed for children ages 3-4 years old and an accompanying adult*. Zoo educators will lead the group in songs, play, crafts and story telling. Each session will have a theme and may include a live animal. A light snack will be provided. This 5 week session begins on October 22nd and will be held on Wednesday mornings from 10am - 11am. Sessions will be held rain or shine in the zoo's classrooms.
Cost of 5 week session : $75
*Each adult may accompany up to 2 children of the appropriate age range. There are no accomodations for older or younger siblings present in the classroom.
