Hello, my name is Jessica. I am 28 and have a 2yr old daughter named Melody and a 14yr old stepdaughter named Stef. I am wanting to raise my 2yr old as a Christian however I am having problems with my own faith and my husband is not exactly the most devoted church goer. In the past few years I did not attend church due to some mistakes I made. I did not feel worthy and still do not feel comfortable being there. I was raised Catholic and didn't like the fact that the bible was not used in there services and we were just told what it said (please, if there are any Catholics in the group, don't take this wrong. It is just my belief and I'm not trying to put Catholics down). I like reading myself and have that be the bases of the ceremony. We also haven't found a church we like. We want a church that studys and teaches strait out of the bible using that as the reference to there sermons. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find one that's not so commercial these days. If anyone has any advice for me please feel free to offer it.

Jessica , Welcome to our group! I am very encouraged that you are seeking to raise your daughter as a Christian. Please know that none of us are truly worthy because we have all messed up. That is what makes Christ's love and grace so wonderful. Where are you located? It sounds like you may be more comfortable in a smaller church since sometimes the really large ones can feel a little commercial at times. You may try a Bible church. My husband is a minister and may have a connection that could recommend a church for you to try. I am very excited that you truly desire to read the Bible for yourself. First John 4:1 tells us to "test the spirits" as we are seeking truth. Basically, we should make sure that our pastors are speaking truth by reading the Bible for ourselves. I hope this helps. Let me know if I can do anything else. I will be praying for you and your family as you seek a church that will help you grow spiritually. |

Jessica, Welcome! I know that it can be hard to find a church that is preaches the true word of God, but they are out there. Maybe drive around the area and see what church names you find. Then check to see if they have a website to check out what they preach there. Otherwise, take time and visit different ones. It can be frustrating but well worth finding the right church. Also know that everyone has a story of their past, but one of the great things about having a personal relationship with Jesus is that if you ask for forgiveness he really does "forgive and forget" as the old saying goes. Remember that "forget" part, he really does forget, look it up for yourself! Julie |

Hi Jessica, I felt the same way for years and was lead to a non denominational church and got so connected with the church. I was plugging into bible study and getting involved in children's ministry and just have such a new love for the Lord. You need to get grounded into a bible based church where the word of God is preached directly from the word of God the bible. When you know whom you are in Christ your life will begin to soar.I advize getting baptized in the holy spirit and get into a spirit filled church. The Lord will bless you beyond what you ever expect.I also suggest listening to Joel and Victoria Osteen they have a pod cast at Lakewood Church in Texas.Try Joelosteen.com. Go to your local library and read becoming a Better You by Joel Osteen. It will change your life! Be Blessed , Jesus loves you!!! Love, Karen |

Hi Jessica, I was in your situation a few years ago. I was raised Catholic and had a hard time getting involved & learning the bible with all the ceremony of the Catholic church. After a series of mistakes involving alcohol & drugs & a child out of wedlock, I was saved by Jesus Christ. After that, I was not able to find what I needed at the Catholic church. I went to different churches and found myself at a First Assembly of God in my town. It is a pentecostal church, very bible based. It is a small church, but all the members are like a family, very connected, & are all filled with the spirit. I was shocked to see people with hands raised in worship, tears streaming down their eyes with gratitude for their Lord. Since then, I have become a regular member & get a lot out of the church. There are weekly bible studies, childrens ministries, outreaches, etc. I suggest church shopping, meet with the pastors of different churches in your area. You will find what you need. Let us know how it goes! God bless! |

Welcome Jessica!
We've moved a few times so I know how hard it is to find churches, especially when being a mother! Hopefully you find one soon, however in the meantime I know it's not easy not hearing the word of God so I'd like to offer you to check out my church's website... the messages are posted on the website. You can watch &/or listen to them as you seek a home church. They are bible based sermons about how to live for Jesus by the Word of God, its not the hoopla of prosperity teachings nor is it one scripture here and there like you may find on some tv preachings. Check it out, I believe it'll be a blessing ;) www.therocksandiego.org/messages
