Weaning in the winter
So I am BF my 10mo daughter and intended to til she turns a year, but another mother mentioned her md said to not wean during the winter because of the antibodies in breast milk. Just wondering if any of you moms have heard that....

I can say, I dramatically decreased nursing my twins in December of last year, and pretty much immediately they started catching a series of colds, after not being sick at all for the 1st 8 months of their life. So I think there might be some validation in that advice. I am about to have our 3rd child and I am hoping on nursing him for a lot longer.
Best of luck! Colleen

I never weaned my children in the winter but did in early spring because of when their birthdays fell. Both of them started getting sick more frequently after they were weaned. But I think it partly depends on what your daughter is exposed to -- daycare, siblings or cousins or friends you see frequently, programs like Gymboree or whatever. So if you really want to wean when she's a year then just be more cautious about hand and toy washing. Because honestly, once she's a year even if she's not completely weaned she's still going to get into more stuff and more contact with the outside world, and all that is going to increase her chances of catching something anyway. So take it into consideration but don't make it your primary reason for continuing if you'd really prefer not to.

your body (breasts) know what your child needs, if they pick up toys that a child with a cold or something just touched or ate something off the floor you automatically produce the antibodies that are needed to fight that particular bacteria. It is amazing really just like your body temp will change to fit the needs of your child and so will the milk temp. I read this cool "scientific" book on babies and moms I wish I would have written the name down.
