Bottle to a Sippy Cup
My son is 16 months and is still on the bottle. I have tried numerous times to give him a sippy cup but he refuses to drink from it. Friends have told me that he'll let me know when he's ready but it hasn't happen yet. Any advice on transitioning him over?

Have you tried different types of sippy cups? Maybe he just doesn't like the one he is being offered. I gave my daughter the kind with the soft spout that is more like a bottle to transition her at around 11 months. I even held her a few times with it like I was giving her a bottle. She was a little messy with it at first, but she got the hang of it. She is almost 14 months now and she can drink from any type I give her.

My daughter is 14 months and takes her bottle still at nap and bedtime and sometime in the car. I give her the Dr. Browns Training sippy cup at her meals and snack and she drinks just fine. Now if I can wean her totally of the bottle that would be great. Good Luck!!!

It is important to remember that all children are different, and just because some are off the bottle at your son's age doesn't mean he has to be.

A gradual transition is best. Offer the sippy cup first with drinks he is already familiar with and likes. Try different kinds. Continue to offer the cup, but don't push when he rejects it. Let him hold it and get used to it.

Maybe he's like my daughter--she doesn't care for a sippy cup but she loves to drink out of a regular cup so thats what she uses. I take her outside to practice with water, and she does pretty well! You could try that?

My son never really uses the sippy cups. He just chews on them. When I take the lid off and let him use it like a cup then he drinks. I am just doing water right now, because he spills a lot of it. But he really wants the open top cup.

My son is 16 months too. He started drining from his sippy cup at 15 months. I tried different brands and now I found one he loves and uses. It's the Nubby brand with the soft spout. He loves it.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. You've given me great advice. He drinks from a regular cup just fine. I have tried Playtex and that didn't work. I bought the nubby brand and he drank from it once... I bought it because it's closest to a nipple from all the other brands. I just have to keep trying and not push him. Thanks a million!
