Reuniting our family
Recently, our family was split up due to allegations we abused our son (my step-son). We have had behavior/discipline problems with him, trying everything from grounding to taking away priviledges, all to no avail. We love our children deeply, but have come to wits end with his behavior; with everyone else, he's a great kid, but when he's at home he disrespects, disobeys, argues, and continuously chooses not to cooperate. We have talked about parenting classes previously, and now we are required to take those classes as well as others. Has anyone else been though a situation like this? Both my husband and I are torn up due to this situation, and by the time we'll see our kids next week, it will have been three weeks since the start of this. We agree that we need help to work out our problems and issues, but we're not getting the help/assistance we feel we should (it can take up to a week to get a simple answer from the CPS worker). With still being new to the community, we don't have many people to talk to, and we have already been dubbed "child abusers" when no one knows us or our family. Any support, tips/advice, etc is welcome at this time.

Good morning Cari!! I am so sorry you and your family are going through this situation. I will say that I can relate to your situation on a basic level. We also were accussed of child abuse and were visited twice by CPS (child protective services) and a few times by the police. Although the allegations were found false it was still very damaging to the family. I also realize that it seems like the wheels turn very slowly in the CPS department. Hopefully the parenting classes will help you deal with the difficult step-son and bring you and your husband together as a united front. please keep us posted on your progress.
