Math games
Does anyone know of some games that teach math skills? My 5 year old daughter is constantly asking us to "quiz" her on basic addition and I would love to get her a game that supports this new love.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

In school, my kids teachers would have them use a deck of cards playing many different games, learning math skills at the same time. One is "math war", having the child look to see with number is higher (two players, or more, putting one card each down and having your child tell you which number is the higher number). Another one is place a deck of cards down, have the child take one card and have the child add "1" to that number, or add "2", depends how high you want to go and the level your child is at... being that she is five, start with having her add "1" to the number on the card she picks up. There are many more games using cards that my kids would play... if you want more suggestions, let me know!

This isn't a game but a fantastic site that offers a plethora of information, advice for elementary school aged kids and parents. This video I included the link for in particular gives fun & interesting tips on basic addition, some cool new ways to approach it. Very clever:

The site was created by a NYC elementary school teacher and doles out great advice mainly through some very cool videos. There's also an informative newsletter, questions from other parents and a place where you can ask direct questions and get answers from the teacher himself.

Good luck!
