Hello all! My son is 9 months olds and I have had the pleasure of staying at home with him. He has never had a bottle. When he turned 6 months I started him on a sippie cup (but not consistently). I have decided to go back to work once he turns a year old. Is there anything I should be doing to prepare both of us for this transition. The thought of stopping breaks my heart.

Hi. You and your son are lucky! My daughter is 9 mo. old and I stayed at home with her for 4 months. After a month, we started bottle feeding her when my husband was at home so he could bond with her. At 6 months, we started her on a sippy cup, too. She thinks she"s a big girl when she uses it, so we play it up whenever she drinks from it. Right now, because of daycare availability and b/c I'm not ready to go full-time, I'm only working part-time... so that's as far as my experience can help you out- sorry, lol.

I did try pumping, but because of the nature of my work and with the time I was spending with my daughter, I didn't stay consistent with it. Whenever I come home, my daughter practically launches herself from whomever's arms she's in to come get me. During work days, the best time for me to nurse her is before and after work. You could try pumping... my daughter sometimes refuses formula. She definitely knows the difference, so we don't bother with formula. When I'm not at home, my husband concentrates on her baby food. Then at night, I nurse Anna. She stays asleep for 12 hours, my husband can get enough sleep so he can go to work at 5am, and I still feel that closeness with Anna.

I'd like to pick up more clients, but having to leave home for too long and cutting down on nursing makes me reluctant.

Soon, I'll try to think of other ways to ween my daughter and myself from nursing. Maybe there's another way for us to have that special mommy/baby time.

Anyone else have some advice for us?? Lol.
