I think I may have posted before about this awhile back, my 2 1/2 year old only wants to where training pants, she wakes up dry every morining and from her naps, she will go when she wakes up, but she just wont go on the potty during the day, if she has an accident she doesnt care, she doesnt mind being in wet or poopy pants, sometimes she will tell me she has to go as she is going other i have to chase her to get her changed. I know she is ready becasue she does tell me sometimes and wants to get on the potty, but not enough to call in success, She has been waking up dry since she was 18 months old.
Any advice will help EXCEPT if it is your opinion that she is not ready, she is.
Thanks |

I'm still close with the daycare provider that had my first daughter with for 3 yrs (during the potty training days) before I became a stay at home mom and her advise for me is to just take a few days and take the child to bathroom every 20 minutes. Do not ask if she has to go--just take her. Even if nothing happens--just take her. Just say "Come on lets go potty". After a few days it's SUPPOSED to work. I'll see for myself in a few mths when it's my turn to do this by myself with my second daughter.
Also, I'm sure your library would have materials if you don't want to purchase any. Or ask your Ped. |

I am in a similar situation with my daughter and the only thing I can suggest is Bribary... I know... I know it's what everyone says not to do but for some kids it really, really works and at this point I am willing to try about anything. I am currently using 1 M&M for piddle and 2 M&M's for poo. Others have used stickers, cheap hot wheels type cars, temporary tattoos... you get the idea. I can't give much feed back because just started, but let me know if you try it and the outcome. |

I just read your post. My daughter is five now. I started potty training her when she was about 2 1/2. It took about 6 months before there was complete success!
I did charts. First I started with a chart that had seven squares on it. When she went the entire day without accidents she got a sticker before bed, which she got to pick and put on the chart. After seven days of success (not necessarily in a row) she got to Toys R Us and pick something that was $20 or less. Then the next chart had 14 squares and so on and so on. By the time I got her making it through everyday we were just before her 3rd birthday and the charts were 28 days long.
She was really proud of herself when she got to pick the sticker and put it on. When she didn't succeed on a day I would just tell her to try better the next day without harping on the fact she had an accident.
Now, with all that said. My daughter went to daycare and never ever had an accident at daycare. The teacher would have them go to the bathroom every hour and as soon as they got done eating and sleeping. Sad to say, but it is exactly what you do with a puppy!
My mom used to tell me when I would get frustrated 'Don't worry, she won't start kindergarten in diapers!'... and it is true. |
