Problems with left breast
After 3 months of successful breastfeeding, the last 2 days my 3 month old son Luke has been actively refusing my left breast! He squirms & fusses the minute I put him on that side and I am confused. I did fall a few days ago & there is a bruise on the top of my left breast. Could my milk on that side taste different due to the bruise?? He will drink it out of a bottle though, so I'm not sure what is going on. Any suggestions or ideas?

might be you're flinching or doing something else unconsciously? or perhaps have shifted your hold on him to favor that side so that he's not quite as comfortable as usual? if he's still nursing fine on the right i would probably try to soldier through it, but always start on the left so you can make sure your milk supply doesn't diminish, until the problem starts to resolve. If it doesn't start resolving in a couple of days then maybe contact a lactation consultant. Another thing you could do is to drink some of the tea or get the mother's milk drops to get a super-supply going so that he doesn't have to work too hard to get what he needs and settles down a little more.

Hope that helps. Hope you're ok after the fall, too, I'm sorry.

I don't remember what happened to me, but my left breast hurt whenever I nursed my daughter. Afraid that my right side would get too big and hurt me in the long run, I just put up with it. It was an annoying pain, but eventually my daughter and I practiced enough on the left side that whatever had hurt me was either healed or she was latching on better.

Then, months later, I don't know how I forgot, but I started to get a hard lump on my right breast. Somehow I knew it was due to my not nursing Anna enough on that side. It hurt, but I made a point to feed her from the right (it was easy to remember because I was so worried about it and because it hurt a little). Eventually the lump reduced/the right side wasn't engorged.

So, the best suggestion I have is to practice on the left side to make sure Luke is attaching properly. Also, are you comfortable when you're holding Luke on your left side? I prefer holding Anna on my right side, so it took a little practice and shifting to find the correct hold for Anna on my left side.

I'm not sure about your milk tasting different because of the bruise- sorry about the fall! Are you ok otherwise?

Has everything settled down, is the problem resolved?

Thanks guys, yeah the problem is resolved. He has been taking both sides normally again, thank goodness. Breastfeeding is back on track & we're both happy about it!

I have issues on and off with my right breast. When I first started I would get clogged milk ducts and it would be so painful I would have to use a cabbage leaf. I absolutely swear by the cabbage leaf. They are cold and they relieve soreness but only leave it on for 30 minutes and don't do it a lot because it could inhibit milk production. It's a weird thing that has no explanation but it works!

I had the same issue, but I found that she didnt like the nipple mousurizer I was putting on. Once I quit using it she hasnt had any problems beside being to busy to nurse. lol
