My son is 17 months old and shows no interest in weening. I am looking for support and help with figuring out when he is ready. Hope anyone can help. |

Welcome! Good to know I'm not the only EBF mom here. I have a 18 month old that will be nursing for a good long while yet and my son didn't wean until he was 3 years old. The World Health Organization recommends nursing for a minimum of 2 years, so there certainly is no medical need to rush weaning. I think the main trick to figuring out when I child is ready to wean is to just stop offering to let the kid nurse. Don't turn him away if he asks, but don't bring up the subject yourself. When he's ready to stop nursing, he'll stop asking. It probably would be a gradual thing (although I have heard of kids quiting cold turkey as well), but eventually, he will stop. And then you will be sad. LOL |

I guess I'm an "ebf" too! My daughter is almost 15 months, & I'm have the same concerns & questions you do Sarah! She doesnt nurse for long periods, ( a few moments on each side) but we both enjoy our time & I can see no reason to stop yet! |

Oh thanks for the replies! I don't plan on weening until he's ready. I'm glad to hear there are other mommies out there who have the same issues I do!! Thanks for the support.
