I'm voting for Obama/Biden. I have worked on the campaign for more than a year, & have been impressed by what I have seen. My reasons are as follows, they may seem simple, but they work for me & my family.
1) I want an end to this war. I have a 14 year old son, & many extended family members in the military. I know we do not have the troop levels to maintain the needed numbers in Iraq or Afghanistan, & I have heard Sen McCain refer to a need for a draft several times. I also see a resurrection of the cold war on the horizon, which will no longer be "cold". I want my son in a University, not fighting in a desert for reasons no one can explain, & that change weekly.
2) I am pro choice..Before anyone gets mad or religious, I am not pro abortion, I just firmly believe that a woman should be free to make her own decisions & that belongs between that woman & her Dr. Sen McCain wants Roe overturned & will only appoint supreme court justices who will do so. (those appointments are lifetime appointments)
3) I firmly believe in the separation of church & state. At one time I think Sen McCain did too, but he & Gov Pailin seem to be pandering to the far right, & I think balance is needed, & the far right wing of the party is now calling his shots.
4) Gov Pailin, although she is interesting & likable, offers little in experience or insight when it comes to the incredible problems our country faces in the years to come. It seems to me she was picked for many of the wrong reasons, & that worries me when it comes to judgment. I dont really want someone like me or that I can 'relate' to in the White House, I want the greatest minds in the country working together to solve the monumental problems we seem to be facing. (I dont think I can run the country, & I've been president of several PTA's & I'm a football mom & I believe in family values)
5) I have not heard (or read) one thing that would help my family in any of Sen. McCains platform & I have never heard Gov Pailin mention anything (other that the bridge to nowhere & the plane) about her plans for this economy. Perhaps someone might enlighten me :)
I would like to add, that Sen Obama has no intention (nor has he ever said he did) of revoking the second amendment. (In my own opinion, perhaps we could limit hunters to regular guns, not semi automatic weapons. Self defense in our homes may not require an Oozie either.. Just one moms opinion)

I agree with everything you said there, but I wanted to add one more reason of my own. I want there to be a planet still here for my kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, etc. Offshore drilling, drilling in ANWR, etc as an answer to our energy problems is ridiculous. It is kind of like the time my son broke his arm and insisted the paramedic put a bandaid on it to make it feel better. It psychologically helped my son deal with what he was going through, but it didn't do a damn bit of good beyond that. We need a REAL solution to our energy woes and we need it ASAP. Cleaner energies are within our reach and we don't need to be just raping the planet and worrying about cleaning up the mess later (if ever). If we leave that bandaid on long enough, and don't do anything else to fix the problem, it won't heal right and we'll have even bigger problems. |

Throughout this election process. the words have never came out of Sen. Obama's mouth that he plans to revoke the second amendment, but his voting record proves that if the house & senate were to pass such legislation, he would allow it to pass. I'm sure most of you will say this is a bias website, but you can check it out at
www.gunbanobama.com
The claims made on this website can be linked back to Sen. Obama's voting record as an Illinios state senator & U.S. Senator. Both of which our public record & can be found at
www.obama.senate.gov/votes/
www.ilga.gov
Most states do already have laws in effect that limit the type of weapons one can use for hunting purposes & most hunters I know have no issue with that. It is all part of the sport to have some limitations. I would also like to add that my family chooses to live off the land. We kill our own meat (some we hunt & some we raise - i.e. cows, pigs, chickens) & grow our own fruits & vegetables, yet we are only critized for the hunting. I was unware that being self-sufficient is such a bad thing.
As for Sen. McCain's platform having anything to offer you & your family, I personally do not know your family, so I am unware of what issues he will be of benefit to you. And I will not pretend that I know what is best for you. I'm sure the reasons you are voting Obama/Biden are just as important to you as my reasons for voting McCain/Palin are to me. May I suggest you check out
www.johnmccain.com
Sen. McCain's political platform is outlined on this website. Maybe you will learn somethings you don't already know, or maybe it will reaffirm the decission you have already made.

1. This breaks out the speech that this “McCain Supports Draft” idea came from. It’s another twist on words that both campaigns are famous for. http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/08/does_mccain_favor_a_draft_nope.php
2. Even Roe doesn’t support Roe v. Wade anymore. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1998/roe.wade/stories/roe.profile/
3. You have no definitive examples here. It’s just a blanket statement, but no examples to refute or defend.
4. I think that Governor Palin has a few more qualifications than Hockey mom and PTA president. Besides it seems like neither side should be throwing stones in the qualifications arena.
5. This is the one and only statement that I agree with 100% and thank you for putting it there. This is one time where you SHOULD be selfish. If you feel after doing your homework (which it seems that you have), that your candidate is best for your family, then that is all that matters. As a Veteran, this is what I believe in most and it is what I fight for! - and YES! I am a mom – sometimes people forget there are moms fighting for your freedoms too! I will say, however, I don’t agree with your choice, but that is my right.
6. As for the 2nd amendment – revoking it would only put honest citizens at risk. The criminals will still get the guns. They get them illegally now anyway. I also believe that parents that are irresponsible with weapons should be put in jail!
7. As for the energy crisis, yes, we need to do something about it - ALL of us!!! I wonder why it is that celebrities and politicians fly around in their jets telling us, everyday Americans, how we are wasting energy. It seems as though people who drive around in inefficient vehicles with only 1 or 2 people in them, people who leave the lights on, don't recycle, etc, are the ones who we need to get onto. Slowly, these high gas prices are starting to eat away at the SUV owners' pockets, which really should tell them to get a vehicle that is more economical - ie hybrid or biodiesel. WE are the problem. If anyone has been to Europe, they would see that we are WAY behind the power curve. Our big cars won't even fit into their parking spaces. They don't (usually) drive SUV's or big trucks. Their fuel prices have been outrageously high compared to ours since before 9-11. Maybe we should take a page from their book and conserve. Even their home construction is energy friendly. We are so behind in this and take this for granted. I just don't think relying on the President or government is actually going to get things going. It seems as though getting anything through Congress without unnecessary crap attached to it takes an act of God. Why can't the politicians just put something up for a plain and simple vote without all of the pork?
OK - Off of my soapbox. Sorry...That darn freedom of speech thing again...
Thank you for putting your thoughts so eloquently. God Bless America!

Sorry about my post - not sure why it's cutting off at the end, but I guess you get the point. Here is the first link that cut off. I hope it doesn't this time.

This commercial was done by a local (Seattle area) kid. You have to watch the whole thing. When he finishes talking and walks away, you get a sense of how this could be the commercial of the campaign season. Hi, My son Joe just did a commercial for John McCain. Please pass this on. Thanks Bob Cook

READER BEWARE: These are my opinions, and if you don't like it-that's YOUR PROBLEM, not mine!
The last time we had a Democrat in office was in 2000. When President Clinton was in office, our country was growing. People had jobs, had homes, and our country's surplus was growing. Everyone was happy.
In 2004-2008, President Bush decided to engage the United States Military in a war, claiming "weapons of mass destruction". When in fact, there wasn't any to begin with.
Under President Bush, not only are the American People losing jobs, but they are also losing their homes, financial institutions are closing, and I have a difficult time finding the bright side of our economy as he continues to be in office.
Under President Bush, our country has the largest deficit in history. This was not the case when we had a Democrat in office.
For all the women voters who supported Hilary and are now supporting Palin. In my estimation, Palin is no Hilary and will never be in the same ranks as her. I feel that McCain took Palin, out of the blue, to gain women supporter votes.
In my opinion, McCain is trying to steal Obamas' Thunder, by trying to steal Obama's CHANGE.
Dave Stewar' has a song called "American Prayer", which is featured on YouTube. It is a beautiful song, and worth listening too.
The CHANGE is NOW! BARACK TO VOTE! |
