Tummy Trouble
Hello all, I am a first time Mom and I am breast feeding my 4 week old son. Lately he seems to have a lot of gas and is very uncomfortable and fussy. I burp him for 15-20 min. and he does burp a lot, but for some reason is still having trouble. Any idea's why this is happening or what I can do?

I tried gas drops and they seemed to help quite a bit.

also I noticed that certain holds make my 7 week old more gassy than others. The football makes him really gassy and the cross hold seems to work best.

Do you drink milk? My son is exclusively breastfed and had terrible pain until I realized that his tummy couldn't handle the milk I was drinking. Also, he was pooping only every few days. I had to switch to soy milk and his pain ceased immediately.

Try massaging "I Love U" on his abdomen. Sometimes that can help relieve gas.

If your son is really fussing, try taking a warm bath with him. Get into the tub and fill the water up to your nipples and let him float in the water while he nurses.

My son was colicky and the best thing I did for him was buy him a ring sling (www.wallypop.net). Once I couldn't feed him for 8 hours because of some tests that were being done on him, and he only cried when I took him out of the sling. Babies love to be carried, and this carrier lets you get your work done while baby nurses and sleeps.

My son has acid reflux really bad for a while. It is worse than the colic. alway gassy and very fussy/cryey after every feeding. my doctor put him on prvicid for the acid reflux and i was on a very strict diet. One women suggested stopping the milk. That is a great idea. I had to cut milk out of everything. No cheese, no milk, no milk product - inculding butter. A babbies tummy is VERY sesitive to the milk protine, that is why we don't give babies milk untill they are older. give it a shot, it can't hurt. Good Luck
