So often we hear about different food causing problems with out little ones. I've found that soy tends to be my downfall--which is rough because I Love oriental food. I just found out through a really rough night that worchestershire sauce has soy in it. Also tomatoes and/or Coke tends to bother Noah as well.
What food have you found that you have to cut out? |

I found tomatoes bother Luke a lot also, which is not fun because I love pasta with chunky sauce. I can't take multivitamins or my iron pills either, which is unfortunate since I have been very anemic. The other problem food for me is anything citrus (orange juice, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice). It's worth it to cut them out, for sure, or else I have one cranky baby on my hands! |

Spicy food is a no-no, bad night the first night home because of pepperoni, and I am also anemic. I find peanuts, red meat, and tuna a good source of iron. Oh and certain herbs like Oregano, dill, fresh onions, and garlic Martin can't stand. |

Hello. I have a 4 week old. She fusses a bit, but I am not sure how much or little fussing is worth changing my diet for.
What is a "really rough night" for you?

The first night he was up all night screaming his lungs out in pain. He would have non stop diarrhea that was just liquid and red because of the diarrhea was so bad he bleed. When he was hungry he wouldn't eat because the pepperoni was still in my milk and he didn't want to put more of the stuff that was causing him pain into his stomach. We had to wait until the pepperoni was out his and my systems before he would even think of eating and going back to sleep. Which took me pumping all the bad milk out by hand (since we didn't have a pump yet) and waiting until more came in. This all started at 6' o clock at night and ended at noon the next day. So to answer your question that was a "rough" night. Not to mention this was our first night at home from the hospital so I was still tired from giving birth. So for my sanity I just can't risk eating foods that upset his stomach. |

Dierdra....to be honest my rough nights really aren't as bad as most moms. I have a super great baby and its more his crying that bothers me so much because I feel bad and can't do a lot to help. What happens with me is that he will eat and shortly after will start crying esp if he's in his bouncer. He is cramping so bad and he wont bend (ie sitting him down to burp) We know whats going on because his cry is so much higher pitched and we know he's hurting. This can go on for 1 to 1.5 hours. sometimes a little more but rarely I'm a pretty laid back mom so we give him gas drops and walk him and pat his back trying to get a burp. We make him sit or either lay down and push his legs up which makes him cry worse but helps get the gas out. We'll wait about 20-30 mins and give him more drops if he still seems in pain. Also, we'll fix a bottle of formula for him or if I happen to have something pumped thaw it. Milk helps with the acid build up and gets him to eat as well. Noah is doing a lot better with what I eat....I had Japanese food at the mall the other day and fed him a couple of hours later and he was fine. I also give him gas drops after I breastfeed him if I know I've eaten something that could possibly bother him (I used to with tomatos.) If your child's not screeching in pain but just a little fussy I don't think its too bad. Noah was screeching so that bothered me but now he's just super gassy and occasionally in pain so I don't watch what I eat as much. |
