How do you manage it? Mine are 15 mths and it becomes more challenging as they get older!
Most days I'm at home because I don't want to deal with the tantrums or yelling and frustration when we go out. Although I know it's only good for them to get out of the home. Usually on the weekends dh and I take them out somewhere. But the week is really a drag!
Anyone got any advice on how you manage to go out with your twin toddlers and avoid the usual twin tantrum?
Thanks!

Denise, My twins are only five months old, but when I go out I also have a three year old in tow so I know just what you mean about not wanting to take them anywhere! I put the twins in their dual stroller and then I have to make my older child hang onto the handle of the stroller, and believe me he doesn't usually stay with me! Sooner or later the babies are both screaming and I'm running down isles chasing Sammy! Phew! who really needed groceries anyway right? When Sammy was about 15 months is when he first started the nasty tempertantrums too, and I used to be so embarrased that I'd just drop my items and leave! That age is terribly difficult because they have all those big emotions yet they're still to little to really understand cause and effect of their actions. At this point I'd probably bribe them a little before you go into a store, promise them something they like after you shop, or even bring favorite toys or (gulp) even some gummy worms or something with you. I know that sounds terrible but you need some you time too, and I spoke to both my pediatrician and a preschool teacher and both said bribery is only bribery if you're trying to get someone to do something they shouldn't!! So bring on the gummy bears! You deserve to be able to shop in peace. |

I know exactly how u feel. My twins just turned 2, and I have a 3 and 4 yr old. So, its really not easy for me to go places. I agree that you have to give them something to occupy their time while you're out if its not a fun trip for them. Going to the grocery store is definitely not a trip I like to take all of the children on because they all want this or that. I usually end up opening something before its paid for, just to keep them quiet. I usually let my oldest walk whenever we're out because he really is a big boy, and I've had to discourage my 3 yr old from wanting to walk..well, now the twins want to walk too. I can barely get them to let me hold their hand. What are we gonna do? |

I only went out in the mornings and we would go to the mall and walk around, in the stroller of course! But I would make sure to be back in time for their nap. Let them loose somewhere? I don't recommend it! LOL OH and I also got them cookies while at the mall, that way I got exercise and they sat quietly and ate their cookies and we were not stuck in the house, so everyone was happy! I even met other twin mom's while I was there, so we all made new friends just by going to the mall.
