I get sooooooooo frustrated with certain people who shall remain nameless giving me a hard time about my PERSONAL choice to breastfeed my child as long as I have. My daughter is 18 mo's now, and I am still breastfeeding her. I enjoy it, she enjoys it...my risk for breast cancer is decreasing and decreasing. Very very very irritating!!! |

Its so frustrating to feel no matter what choice you make someone is there disapproving. YOU and you only can make the best choice for your child and family. I say go for it---its cheaper and has some great benefits. You are doing great things for your child and shouldn't be made to feel bad. |

I breastfed my oldest daughter until she was about 15 months. I stopped the daytime feedings on her birthday but gave in at night for a few more months. It didnt seem strange to me but some people thought it was weird. My middle daughter nursed until 11 months and quit on her own. Just wasnt interested anymore! The doc said to skip the formula and go straight to whole milk. Shes 22 months now and I cant imagine still nursing her at this point! I am now nursing my 4 month old son! So I say- do what you do. If you are happy and comfortable, then thats what is important.
I do have to say, I watched a video on youtube where a woman was breast feeding her 8 year old. Now if you come back in 6 1/2 years with this same complaint, I will agree with whoever it is thats giving you a hard time and call you crazy!

I think it's wonderful that you're still breastfeeding. My son self-weaned around 13 and a half months old and I cried for a week! Enjoy this special time, and know that you are giving your baby the best start in life possible! Rock on Mama! |

I'm a stay at home mom in northern california and I am still breastfeeding my 2 year old for comfort as well as my 5 week old. I go to La Leche League meetings and am not the only one still nursing this long. Also, there are a few other moms who are tandem nursing (breastfeeding newborns and siblings). It is your decision on how to care for and nurture your babies. The World Health Organization is now recommending breastfeeding to two years old. This is a very personal decision. And I must add, it takes a lot of love and dedication, so do what works for you and your family. This really is no one else's business! P.S. As you have stated this has so many health benefits for you and your daughter, including a decreased risk of breast cancer for your daughter too! |
