Leader or Friend?
I don't expect a President to have the same quality I am looking on a friend and I would assume he/ she had more life experience, determination and knowledge that I have otherwise there would be no reason for this person to be chosen.

I expect that a leader should lead, have a vision and know how to get his vision executed.

That is the reason I have problem with any populist approach: " I am like you, so vote for me" , I want you to be better than me!

I would agree that I want our President to have more experience than I do when in comes to political issues & policies. That experience should be the determining factor in how we vote b/c it shows how he/she will react & deal with the problems they will face on a daily basis as president.

However, I do have a problem with saying I want someone to be better than me - I don't believe that any one of us is better than another!!

I look at it like I do raising my children. I am their mother, not friend. I know what is in their best interest even if they don't agree & I know how to help them accomplish & reach the goals that will make them become responsible, loving & caring adults. I do have more life experiences & knowledge, but I would never say that I am better than any of my children!

And the leader of our great country should not see themself as better than the citizens of our country!

I want my president to be better than the rest, not just me. That wouldn't be that hard to do with my history! LOL
Be above the common man. Let's face. There are an awful lot of people out there that are well below the average "Joe or Jill" I want to be able to look up to my president! Not matter what the sex color, religion...
I don't think it's a bad thing at all to expect MORE out of your president. They are after all... LEADING our country.

I am not sure, but this seems to be a question that stems from the idea that Palin would appeal to a lot of women, including me who listed a bunch of qualities that makes her my kind of woman.

I do think Obama has used this arguement quite a bit, that he understands the middle class plight. That he is just like us, but really even if he grew up with not a lot of money, he still did not quite live the average joe, inner city childhood that he seems to imply.

Also, I would argue Palin has much more executive experience than Obama, running a city for 2 terms and a state for a year and a half. When Obama was in the State Senate, he voted "present" more times than not, and what exactly has he accomplished in his time in the US Senate?

I am not sure if this discussion was brought to fruition after my post about Palin being my kind of woman or not. but just to clarify, I do believe she would be a strong leader, and a good compliment to McCain. And I do believe she has a much better proven record of leadership and standing up for what she believes in than Obama, who honestly goes back and forth on pretty much everything he says week to week.
