Kids with speech delay
Public online group

Introducing myself..
Hi, my name is Lisa and I have an almost 3 year old Son and a 7 week old Daughter. My Son has speech delay and is undergoing Early Intervention and soon to be transferred to the school district for services. I am hoping he will get to go to preschool for speech therapy rather than just for half an hour a week with a speech therapist. He's always making progress, just no where near where he should be for his age i.e. hardly any sentences and making noise/gestures for things he wants rather than asking. Sometimes it seems like he just can't be bothered, especially when I know he can say the word.. or maybe he forgets?? It can be frustrating and I am glad to have found this group and know others out there are in the same boat.
I'll be busy now reading the other posts and getting some advice.

Hi Lisa and welcome!

I personally think you have found the best group around, especially if you are looking for understanding, support and real world experience and tips.

Your son sounds a lot like mine. He's 3 in November and we have a little girl that will be a year old Septemeber 20. His speech therapist and I have decided that he probably has dyspraxia which, to my understanding, is like dyslexia of the mouth. I totally understand how there are moments that he just doesn't want to work for it. And that's fine. We will have weeks of improvement, only for him to regress to babbling. He has about 50 words and is smart as a whip.

Have you tried any fish oil supplements? My son is currently taking Lil Critters Omega-3's and has shown a remarkable improvement. I am stealing a quote here but, it's like it just gave him an extra boost.

We are a very welcoming and supportive group. Please feel free to be candid and make yourself right at home. There is such a wealth of information and understanding here.

You sound like you have a lot going on with a newborn and also with a son with a speech delay but, it also sounds like you are totally capable of handling both.

We all know how frustrating it can be, especially when you know all your son is capable of but, he's gonna get there. There's a list of some great resources.

Annette got me to try out the Baby Babble/2, which is a DVD that's practically like having a speech language pathologist in your DVD player.

There's also a lot of great sites out there as well so, check out our lists and, of course, all our posts and please, if you need anything, feel free to contact me directly as well.

Good luck with your son and we hope to hear a lot more from you!

My favorite site is.. http://teachmetotalk.com/

You will find so much info here... it's incredible! Hope to hear your positive and encouraging updates! And feel free to vent and de-stress too... it's hard raising a child with a delay.
