Hi Rhonda! I use the Nordic Naturals Children's DHA chewables.. they are strawberry flavored gel caps. Jake LOVES them! I started him on half a dose (2 gel caps per day) for a few weeks, then I gave him 3 gel caps/day for a few weeks, then 4/day... now he is up to 5. By using the graduated dosing, it helps prevent the extreme changes that can sometimes happen. There can be behavior spikes, insomnia, runny poo. The nerves in the brain start firing within days or starting it, and too much too soon can cause a lot of irritability.
If you go with the liquid, start with half a dose. The liquid is higher concentrate than the gel caps and I've heard the insomnia is bad after a week of being on it.
I started Jake in March.. he went from 5 words to over 50 by May, and now he is talking in 2, 3 and 4 word sentences pretty regularly. He has even thrown a few 5 word sentences in now and then. I firmly believe the fish oil had a LOT to do with Jake's increase in language!
I also wanted to let you know... young kids still have growing/developing brains and need DHA more than EPA/GLA. Once kids get a bit older (4-5 yrs) they need more EPA/GLA than DHA... you will see the change in mg between the different varieties of supplements.
Oh, and yea, the multi's don't have near the concentration of DHA, and it is the higher doses that get the results!
Good Luck! You will be amazed! |

If you're using Li'l Critters Omega 3 Gummy Fish -- Here is why you aren't getting the results (to: LuvMyBoys) /dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate/ this is the synthetic version of Vit E (not good) And the "fish oil" in it is really /Salvia hispanica oil)/ What the heck is that??
Check out Nordic Natuals... real arctic cod liver oil "from fish" This is what's in the DHA we use: EPA: 82 mg DHA: 125 mg Other Omega-3s: 45 mg Vitamin A: 130–300 IU Vitamin D: 1–4 IU Vitamin E: 14 IU Ingredients: purified arctic cod liver oil, soft gel capsule (gelatin, water, glycerin, strawberry essence), d-alpha tocopherol, strawberry essence, rosemary extract
All natural stuff... those gummy fish are sugared and have additives. I HAVE seen dramatic results... and I use the lower dose version. The liquid has higher concentrations, and others are getting better results than I am! |

Good to know, I will have to check that out. Jack is so picky it is almost impossible to get him to eat anything besides cereal, so the omega fish were the easy way out you know. I have heard of incredible results for kids using the correct dose. |

Thanks for the info posted. I checked and I am using the Li'l Critters Omega 3 Gummy Fish so I will be switching soon! I was suprised the Nemo vitamins also had a bit of fish oil. I am going to be switching regular vitamins also in a week or so. My husband picked up the last vitamins, but we just need to find a better daily vitamin when we finish this batch (the fish oil will be sooner, hopefully).
thanks again! |

Oh I hear ya about the pickyness! That's why I have to use the lower dose caplets... they taste like strawberry and Jake pops 'em in like M&Ms!
I can't really try the liquid, because I'm afraid he won't eat all of what I put it in.. then he's not getting a full dose. He won't take liquid medicine at all either! Strips or chewables. Leaves me with little options.
There is another brand you can try, I use it for my older daughter because it's slightly higher in DHA (200mg) Its the KAL Dinosmarts. She loves them.. they taste like an orange popsicle.
Hope this helps... it really does work, I'd love to see you get the benefits you are looking for. |

I've been using the Nordic Naturals gel caps for 2 weeks now. After a few days, I did see a great improvement in the amount of talking I heard during the day. We've been on vacation and haven't taken them for a few days and my son has been a lot quieter. However, I can't get him to take the gel caps. So I've been poking a hole in them and squirting the oil into a little bit of water. My son is a water fiend and I've just been calling it his 'special water'. He doesn't mind the taste of it. Kristin, did you start out with 1/2 dose on those like Annette did, or did you start out with a full dose? If you started with a full dose, did you notice any side effects or anything? I am just curious for when we get started. I am really excited to get the "good stuff" since I haven't noticed a difference with the Li'l Critters Omega 3 Gummy Fish and I have heard of huge differences. We are out of town right now and on the Nordic Naturals site it doesn't look like there is any place around here to get their products, but as soon as we get home we are going to get what we need! Now I am really looking forward to getting home! |

I started with the full amount and I didn't see any side effects. By the way, we got it at GNC. Kristin |

I'm not sure if GNC carries Nordic Naturals.. you may have to call a few health food stores. Be careful as to which ones you do choose.. as I pointed out above, it really does depend on the type of fish oil used and real vitamin E, not synthetic, etc.
*** I just looked it up... they do carry it! That's good to know! http://www.gnc.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=nordic%20naturals&origkw=nordic%20naturals&sr=1 |

thanks Annette! I just found out I am going to be out of town a bit longer than I thought. I thought I would have to wait until I got back home, but the town I am in does have a GNC, so I hope to go get it tomorrow.
Thanks again!

I have noticed Jake seems to plateau in new words if he misses too many days... although, I try to stay diligent in giving it to him daily.
I have also noticed, when I up his dose (last night I gave him 6), he was so chatty and a bit restless at bedtime and unfortunately gassy, P-U! But, we had a pretty good S/T session today! Lots of words! |
