My 5 yo son has been getting more and more curious about his penis. He sometimes just holds it , watching tv or whatever i dont even think that he realizes he is doing it. Anyway, I have always told him that it is not nice to touch his tinker (thats what i call it) in front of people. He needs to go into the bathroom or his room by himself. He has been pretty good about doing that and only needs occassional reminders about touching it in public. But yesturday I walked in on him 2 times totally naked laying in his bed. I'm not sure which of us was more embarrassed! He told me all day yesturday that he wanted to play "all by myself" in his room. Now I am wondering if that is like code for "i'm going to play with my wienie!!!" I dont want to discourage him from doing that because i dont want him to think it is bad. But I also dont want him to be locked in his room all the time! Is this just a stage? Should I start KNOCKING on his door??! Should I even SAY anything about it?? |

lol... not laughing at you/ WITH you. My son is four and he is doing the exact thing. I tell him in public thats not nice and at home as well that he needs to go to his room or the bathroom if he feels that he needs to touch his "pee pee" well couple weeks ago he disappeared for a little while and went to bathroom to get him he had his shorts off and was at the sick "washing" himself with hand soap. I thought OMG, so I blushed and just said okay wash your hands when your done and hurry up and get out of there. lol i didn't know what else to say! I told my husband and dad who was visiting and they just laughed it off but I really don't know what to say to him... Yeah i know I didn't help you much but Hey at least your not alone. :-D Blushing moms |

Yep, I am there too! My now 9 year old has been in his room doing his "thing" since he was about 4. Not all the time (that would be weird!), but occassionaly. He will even tell me now he needs to go to his room. Freaked me out initially, but my husband and pediatritian say it is ok. My 7 year old has never had that issue other than just lately realizing it tickles him when the shower water hits his privates. He just cracks up in there.....whatever?!?! All children are different....there is not telling what my 3 year old will do! You are not alone!! Take care |

My sister is a single mom and her son is 13 now. I told her that my son takes his diaper off when watching t.v. in his room and he is playing with his penis also. I didn't think it started that young but, I guess it did.. My sister just laughed.. She said just wait until he gets older.. She said that is when you go to his room now and you knock before entering.. I guess it is just a guy thing and normal. I wouldn't say anything other than to only do that in private, not infront of anyone and only at home. This whole boy thing is new to me.. I also, have a 8yr old daughter. I understand about girls but, not the boys.. Whatever, I guess.. It is just part of a boys life, like my husband says it is his bestfriend for life.. |

My son is 3 years old, and has been discovering himself a lot in the past six months or so. I didn't know what to do because he was constantly looking for something to touch himself on (baby gate all the time) and filling his underwear with toy cars. I sat him down one day after he offered to show his great grandmas sister his dooey, and explained that when he has these urges that he needs to be in his room alone. It still bothers me a little when I know what he's doing, but I guess that's just part of kids learning about themselves. |
