Question on how to gain knowledge about camera etc
Hi I'm victoria, I've loved taking photos since there was a little disc camera (remember those round discs you used as the film)...since I was in 7th grade! I am not a pro, but I have a pretty good eye and enjoy taking photos of my 2 year old son, family, and friends....and I used to love to take glamour shots of my friends back when we were a lot younger.

I am looking for tips on how to get started if I eventually try to start up my own small business at home...I don't have the technical background, just have the eye for taking the photos. I need to know more about using the manual other settings on my digital camera, or 35 mm, and would like to get recommendations on a good digital camera anyone could recommend. Should I go to continuing ed classes after school to learn about the settings, or any other online or other programs based in Atlanta (besides Art institute-can't afford it)..that anyone can recommend?

Thanks! V

HI, I am in the same place as you.. I have a decent eye for taking pictures and I get lucky with some really good shots..but I know that if I knew how to use my camera and all its features I could really improve my pictures tremendously. If any one has any suggestions on software or video type lessons please let me know. I started a lesson that a site called i village had online.. but I got busy and didn't keep up with the lesson pace. I did it during the winter and some of the lessons were asking me to go out and catch sun sets at intervals.. and we didn't have any sun showing. I would love to turn my love of photography into a business. Any suggestions.

There are lots of great books out there that can help you get started. You can find many great books at the library! As far as understanding the settings on your camera, I found that going through my camera's user manual page by page and practicing each technique with my camera has really been helpful. I have a Canon Rebel Digital SLR camera and love it!! I hope this helps :)

www.thepioneerwoman.com has a lot of tutorials and photo information.

Nikon D80 is an excellent semi-pro/professional camera. It is expensive, but if you are going to make money from it than it would be worth it.

Books at the library help a little. I think interning or shadowing a pro would be the best hands on experience.

I agree with Mary Ellen....not only is www.thepioneerwoman.com a great way to learn a bit more about photography and using your camera, it's also an amazing website that I check about 15 times a day lol.  I am a stay at home mom and I do photography on the side and most of what I learned about my camera has come from Ree (the pioneer woman)!  I have a Canon Rebel XS and love it!  There are also some tutorials online if you google them and I have used those as well!
